Day Six - Miker07 Steps Up

GOTSpectrum

There has been zero movement in the top ten ranks today, I gotta be up early so I'm gonna make this one quick.

Well Miker07 needed to step it up a gear and he sure did. Upping production and looking quite safe on the throne with 205.31 million points. Ben_F is sitting in second place with 196.01 million points followed distantly by Justaphf with 138.24 million points. Mxyzptlk is in fourth place with 116.93 million points. Favebook is in fifth place still with 75.90 million points.

Rank 6 continues to be held by Pezui with 65.80 million points, But Starman57 in 7th place seems to have lost a boiler and their production has take a serious dent. He currently has 58.12 million points. vsteel in is 8th place with 56.18 million points and following closely is LazyDev with 54.63 million points. Finally the gatekeeper remains to be GOTSpectrum with 49.16 million points.

So, as you can see it remains exciting at Folding Month 2021, although there has been little movement at the top of the table the same can't be said for the lower ranks. It is certainly interesting to see who manages to keep and who seems to have given in to the heat already. I think I may give a ping tomorrow to those who are not folding over the next 24 hours.

Please click on the link below to see the full list of ranks for today.

Day Six Ranks

Please remember that this is a friendly event, but we are all folding away for Science, AND GLORY!

I'm really impressed with the numbers we are seeing here, Thank you to all who are involved and who make this worth while every year.

Remember we are a team first and individuals second, so give thanks where thanks is due and hit that reaction button when someone helps you out.

Be wary of the minimum participation requirements this year.

20 Days with activity*, 500,000 Points & 40 WU

(*activity is defined as completing at least 1WU for the 24 hour period)

Finally, if you have had any hardware die during the event or on the run up to the event during preparations please post it on the thread below

List of The Dead

Happy folding,

Spec

Assuming I can get the .STL file for the duct on thingiverse making a new housing for the motor/blade assembly out of a Radeon HD 7970 won't be any trouble. I'll even see if I can adapt the GPU PCB connector to a standard 3/4-pin. It'll have to be a 2/3 part assembly though so either screws or tape will have to hold it together.

I'm also working 40+ hour weeks so although I volunteered it's not something I can guarantee you'll get ASAP nut I'd like to see what that card can do when it actually has adequate cooling.

@GOTSpectrum, might be a good column to add that is "days folded" or "days without folding", depending on which is the easier list.  Since you'll end up calculating it at the end of the event anyway.

This is information we already know, but choose not to publish it to discourage people of purposefully doing the bare minimum. If people wanna do that, I don't wanna help them

You do know that this is the previous day report and as such doesn't reflect the last 24 hours...

P.S.

This is what EOC Says you did in the last 24 hours...

This is what our sheets says you did in the last 24 hours...

It lines up perfectly. You have to remember that this event and EOC run on different time zones, and as such the days will not be equal to each other.

 I hate time zones.

I understand that you're quite busy, and I really appreciate that you're taking the time to help me like this. Please don't feel rushed to take care of it right away; I can use a makeshift duct with cardboard and tape until then. Sorry for any bother, and thanks again!

How long of a power cable would be good for you?

For the power cable, I'm using an EPS12V to dual 8-pin adapter similar to this one, which is connected to the 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe connectors on the nonmodular 500W power supply it's hooked up to. I'm probably using around 45-55cm of power cables in total at the moment, as well as a 30cm PCIe x16 riser.

I'm planning to use the duct you're designing with a second one that I'll probably make out of cardboard and tape, on the opposite end of the card to better overcome the pressure drop. I've actually built a second duct, and I'm testing it right now. The P100 now boosts considerably higher when folding, and I think it'll actually be able to handle a 100% power limit with your duct installed.

Thank you again for taking the time and resources to do this. I really appreciate it.

So 1.5ft or about 45cm should be long enough?

The blower motor has TACH and I believe PWM functionality. Though these functions are supposed to run through the GPU I might be able to get them working on a motherboard fan header. If it works you would be able to control the fan speed from within the OS or the BIOS at least. Without resorting to throttling direct DC voltage.

That length range should be enough, though I can extend fan cables with some of those 30cm fan cables that came with my NF-A4s. I'm currently controlling the GPU fan speed from BIOS by connecting only the GPU fans to CHA_FAN and connecting all the other fans to CPU_FAN.

Because the fan can draw up to 1.7A @ 12V I'm not putting a 4-pin on the fan. It's going to be molex for power direct from PSU then a 4-pin for testing TACH + PWM. If you have Molex extensions handy that'll work.

The power supply I'm using does have a cable with way too many Molex connectors on it, and it should definitely be long enough to reach the GPU. Just curious, what model of fan are you talking about?

A DC Brushless FD7525U12D 75mm. Came out of my Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 from like 2014.
