Difference between brands?

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop of 17, and I'm looking at alternatives, my main use will be as software development, big data and financial systems (such as Calypso tools they need to start 4-6 ram ) and usually work in virtualized environments (max 3 normally 2 simultaneously (99%)).

The truth is that I'm going crazy for two models and don't not what to choose.

the first one  is the thinkpad p70 with XEON 1505M and 16 GB of RAM in 8 * 2 (16gb is the least I  would need ) or new models Dell Precision 17 7000 both with same configuration.

But now, I don't know how much it would be an advantage or not the difference in price between the Xeon E3 1505M processor with ECC memory and i7 6700HQ or 6820HQ without ECC  for my usage.

Moreover, if the ECC XEON not really offer me any significant advantage and opt for the i7 6gth what differences would have to Alienware 17 or Asus rog 17 g752vt 6gth i7 both with and DDR4 memory expandable up to 64GB, but with a price much lower compared to the workstation.

I don't use graphic, and don't play games, I only work with the laptop connected to 2 monitor + laptop screen.

What recommend me?  What are the difference between Dell precision and thinkpad (same specification), or between MSI, CLEVO or any other...

Sorry for my english, I'm from Spain...

Hi all, I am also looking for a 17" machine to use for develloping.

Want UHD and portability, so I was looking at those machines plus the zbook because it is lighter, but it looks like the zbook only come swith Dreamcolor in UHD which sucks batteries....

An option that tempts me is the Gigabyte P37Xv5, looks like it has decen battery life, lightest of them all, looks like a normal notebook, and also will come with UHD IPS, and a lot of storage flexibility (only two sodimm slots so max 32gb, but should be enough for me...).

Only question is keyboard quality. Also, has a crazy graphics card that I would never use.

Anyway, also looking at opinions...

You should take a look at this. In some things, mobile CPUs can never beat desktop CPUs.

http://www.mysn.de/schenker-mobile-workstations/schenker-w706

Because this is the workstation model, it does not feature G-Sync. If you want G-Sync, look at the U706 on their site.

but is clevo laptops Deviltech, Mysn, Eurocom or any other are same quality builds as Thinkpad or DELL? motherboard, connectors, case...? which is better?

I personally prefer quadro graphic better than geforce because geforce get hot after few hours of usage.

I have a really bad experience on HP quality, I really don't recommended as main workstation laptop, but i never used or know someone that have zbook.

What are you actually talking about? Define "deviltech". And if you think that GeForce cards actually run warmer, you may be wrong.

Deviltech are like the others laptops builder, most of them bases in clevo. And yes, gpu for games run at higher clock frecuency and more power consumition so they get warmer

Right, Clevo's build quality is good, like the standard is up there, solid build quality. Linus has review a few Clevos before, they should be the Venom Blackbook 15 (P650SE), Sager NP9773-G (P770DM-G) and NP9870U2G (P870DM-G). For cooling the GPUs and CPUs, Clevo has already thought of that, the cooling is top of the line. Their slim gaming notebooks, the P65XXX series actually come with 3 cooling fans, so they remain cooler. Power consumption wise, if you are not playing games for using the GPU, it would be really really low. On my P650SG, not playing games gives me like 4 hours of battery life, enough to last me in school from about like 9 to just after lunch (my lunch is about 12). Oh, and the link I posted also has options for Quadro cards if you have not realised.

thanks @exercutor5 but you don't really answer my question. I think quality component  over Thinkpad or Dell are much higher than any clevo builder also building quality between WS and gaming laptops are different, Business laptops are expected to remain in service much longer than gaming laptop (at least 3 years), and they’re expected to withstand at least a little rough handling. As such, they’re usually fabricated from stronger material aluminum or magnesium, for instance and they feature more rugged construction, also tested synchronization among all components, and much more differences.

I can resume the question in: for my usage(explain on first post), is really an advantage to use xeon cpu with ECC memory?, or I will not get differences if I use i7 without ECC,  what are the main differences between Dell precision 17 7000 and thinkPad p70 with same specification?.

My usage: I work as software developer, Hadoop, big data analysis and banking core application such as calypso, when I work i usually use vmware and work with 2-3 virtual machines at same time with 2 monitors (24'').

I am looking for a laptop 17 inch or 15 inch, but prefer 17. with max budget 3000€.

my minimum needs of memory is 16GB.

So i found 2 models:

1. thinkPad p70

2. Dell precision 17 7000

both of them offer same specification. i7 6ºgth  or XEON E3 v5 DDR4 and quadro graphics, if u choose the xeon processor u can pick ECC memory, and here appears my first question. ¿for my usage, ECC memory with Xeon cpu will give a significant advantage?

and if not, what are the main difference between both ws brands? specially in quality and reliability.

In my experince if you are looking for quality and reliabillity you can go wrong with dell or lenovo, but as far as i know the thinkpad is a little but some durable and has been mil-spec tested (dont know if the dell is) so that mean the you can spill water over it, drop it and that its dust proof etc.

If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough it will be believed.

Well, you see I said that becase I am a retard that does not read his posts before he posts them... What I meant that I prefer thinkpads but dell is also great for workstation laptops.
