PC and PS4 with DAC?

Royal21

Ive been working on buying a PS4 to add to my setup pretty soon and I realized I might have an audio problem.

I currently use a Fiio E10K DAC with Sennheiser HD 558 headphones.

Would it be possible to route both my PC and PS4 audio through the DAC and into my headphones using the line out on the DAC.

Maybe something like this?: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GZQWLF0?keywords=optical%20to%203.5%20mm&qid=1448492756&ref_=sr_1_7&sr=8-7

If none of this would work or be powerful enough, are there other options I could use to have both my PC and PS4 audio going into my 558's, maybe like the astro mixamp or something?

Thank you for any help or suggestions! Money isnt really a problem but im trying to avoid having to use anything but my headphones!

:)

It needs to be able to switch between two digital sources, line-out is just to connect it to another AMP, it doesn't switch input source. So you need to both connect the incoming digital audio to a device which can switch between them, prior to outputting it to the DAC via USB. At the moment, i can't think of how.

This.  The PS4 only has HDMI, Optical and if you configure it correctly I believe it should be able to do USB audio out or a bluetooth headset or possibly speaker.  Alternatively you can use the 3.5mm jack on the controller for audio output.  If you want to connect to your Fiio, as Majestic said you'll need to find something that can handle multiple audio input sources and switch between them, as well as output to USB which might get pretty expensive.

Edit: I don't think it's that big of a deal, 558s aren't that high impedence to absolutely require an amp, so you should just be able to plug them into the controller and be done with it.  Honestly I have to turn down the volume to like setting 2 when I do it with my IEMs, haven't tried it with my HD600s though.

The best option would be adding an optical input to your computer. Not a whole lot of options to do this though. Cheapest soundcard I could find with an input: SEDNA - PCI 7.1 Channel Sound Card with Optical SPDIF Input and Output https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VM5LY7A/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_GcMvwbR18G42P

My biggest thing is being able to have audio from both my PC (skype mainly) and the PS4 at the same time.

Thanks anyways guys! Might just buy an astro mixamp then, since I know I can work with that!

Don't get the mixamp, you can get better for cheaper.  Instead you can get an smsl sd793-ii for $65 and you can use it on your pc and your ps4 and whatever other devices you have that support optical.

I currently use this for my akg k712 headphones and couldn't be happier.

Edit:  Didn't see you wanted to have the audio at the same time.  For that you would need some kind of splitter, but I'm not sure what would be good since I'm not trying to use both at the same time.
