Does overclocking my r9 390x make it die faster? I want to keep it for as long as possible :)

running anything out of spec will reduce it's lifespan. Only overclock when you need to

just wait until it's necessary to overclock.

i have a 6600k at base speed and i plan to overclock it when (inevitably) technology improves further.

Hey look, my signature is invisible!

IT will, but it should still last 6 years or so

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

Odds are you will be unamused with the performance of the card long before an OC does any damage to it

If you don't need more performance, it's kinda pointless. If you do, it will reduce its lifespan, but unless you have it for a very long time, it probably won't make a huge difference (assuming you do everything correctly/safely).
