What is a good Entry-Mid level GPU for 1440P Gaming pref 45-60FPS

Quark
Go to solution Solved by Rolling Potatoe,

r9 290/290x 390/390x.

Those can be had used for around 200, but since 670s are really not bad you will get 50% more performance at best.

If you could grab a second 670 for cheap on ebay that would also be an option, but 2gb vram is starting to become a concern there .....

I've been looking at the 390, 390x, 970 and 980

Budget is 300-450

I've read the 980 doesn't have very good price per performance.

I'm leaning towards the 390 or the 390X currently but am still going back and fourth.

I currently have the GTX 670 and really like that the Geforce Experience automatically configures settings based on my rig.

My CPU is an I7 960 @ 3.2GHZ however I honestly don't know if this should impact my GPU choice.

Games I would be playing

Fall out 4, Total war: Warhammer /Rome2, Heroes of the Storm, MGSV

If it isn't obvious I'm a newbie still learning and am very appreciate of advice.

For anyone curios this is the Monitor I got on sale today. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009626

The CPU shouldn't really impact the choice, but it can be a factor as well.  However, that's a pretty good CPU and you should be fine.  You could also overclock that a lot, since the chips of that era were really good for that.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

GTX 970 or R9 380

390x

You need a high-end card to be able to do that.

But for that go with a 390 or 390x

390X :D. or 2 used R9 290's in Crossfire.

I would say that the minimum would a 390, but if you can afford it by all means go for the 390x.

Thats not true, the 390 and 390x fits pretty perfectly in the 1080p and 1440p range, they are gonna struggle with 4K.

Yes, almost as 4k ready as the current gen consoles ;).

Anyways, a 670 still can push a nice 1440p experience in high with fxaa with modern titles,

no need to rush an upgrade for 30-50% improvement.

Potato you make a good point once the monitor is here I can take the 670 for a spin so to speak. Games I would be playing are

Fall out 4, Total war: Warhammer  in the future and currently Rome2, Heroes of the Storm, MGSV. I am sensitive to a new generation of GPU's being released but I don't see that happening for another 12 months.

Spas_ID If I were to go on the lower end I think I would opt for the 390 mostly b.c of new egg's current rebate + 10% off coupon on select GPU's (390 and 390x included)

Yes, they're marketed for 4K, but that doesn't mean they were made for 4K.

Those cards do well in 1440p.
