1. More than 60% of steam users are on 1080p or lower. I agree it's not the latest and greatest but still most users haven't adopted higher resolutions and 1440p and they are still a niche in the market.

 

2. People who buy products from the same company that rips them off every year are fanboys. NV gimped the performance of Kepler cards with gameworks in some games that even a 960 beats a prevously top tier card like the 780. The same thing will probably happen with Maxwell when Pascal hits the market as it will surely feature Async Compute and will have a big boost just from that.

 

3. Soon more DX12 will be available and we will know for sure whether current NV cards are bad for DX12. Keep in mind that AotS is a neutral benchmark.

 

4. Great for you! Most users don't upgrade their GPUs every generation and want cards that can last more than 1 year and still be relevant. As some reddit user said "Buy NV if you want a fast card now. Buy AMD if you want a longer lasting card.". And most of the educated consumers surely want a longer lasting card if they value their money.

I dont upgrade every Generation. I only upgrade when i need to. And most of the "educated" consumers? You should watch your words more carefull.

They trade blows in these benchmarks. The r9 390x is cheaper so I would go for that one.

Went with a 390x in the end, realised I cap all my games at 60fps.
