Weird GPU improvement in 3DMark Vantage

So I've had the same GPU for some time and since it was quite old I always had the impression that the GPU doesn't run that well... 3DMark Vantage proved this with a score of, if I can remember, 5300 a few months ago. I ran it through the same programme again but this time, without lag and good FPS, I got a fairly decent 15980... (Link is here: http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/5326199 ) Why is this? Is it because I cleared unused programmes or something? I haven't upgraded my computer since then... Obviously I'm happy since a new GPU is not needed but I still find this somewhat bizarre...
