is watercooling risky?

i have built my pc and I went with air instead but I never gave watercooling a consideration as I am not comfortable with water in my system is it safe, do companies cover damage if something leaks and destroys the system? in the future im giving it a serious consideration.

It done correctly not at all. Comapanies do not cover removing cooler and putting waterblocks on that is why EVGA sells a HydroCopper version so you get a warranty and block

If you build it right, and you make sure everything is tight with no leaks then it's safe yes.

You want to run the loop without having the computer running, so if there are any leaks nothing will get damaged, put some paper towels over the parts so if it leaks it will just get onto the paper towels, if it should get on the parts, leave them to dry for about 72 hours minimum, if everything is running smoothly you just leave the loop running for about 24 hours so that you are sure there are no leaks.

You don't really need to worry about it with AIO water coolers, as they're usually very well-constructed. The only way one of those would leak would be if you took a box cutter to one of the tubes. If you're going full-custom water loop, then you want to be a bit more careful, but if you do things by the book then you've nothing to worry about. If water cooling were that dangerous then no one would do it, yet people water cool their computers in droves to this day, as they have done for quite a few years.

Like that, only the fans and the watercooling loop is running and not the CPU, GPU etc, you 'hotwire' the PSU by connecting the green and black (I think it was) with a paper clip. So nothing really happens if it leaks on the parts, other than them getting wet ..

It done correctly not at all. Comapanies do not cover removing cooler and putting waterblocks on that is why EVGA sells a HydroCopper version so you get a warranty and block

 

Actually Evga doesn't care if you remove their cooler and put a aftermarket cooler on it, they will expect you to put the old cooler back on though if you need warranty work done on it.  Some of the other brands work like this as well, but some of them are case by case as well.

In terms of voiding warranties? Depends on the manufacturer.

In terms of overall safety such as when a leak DOES happen, regardless if its user error or manufacturer inconsistency in quality control, since even 99% guarantee to work as intended and advertised means 1% possibility of getting a product with defects that have been overlooked, it may cause an issue.

That said, the benefits of watercooling, even in an AIO, is actually reasonable.

I'm assuming your talking about AIO loops then yeah there safe. It your talking about custom then as with most things if your not careful then it might come back to bite you and if you go custom companies don't refund the damage

Let me cover this question since I've had first-hand experience with this. Will the company cover damage if something leaks? Only if the leak is caused by a faulty component, and you can demonstrate that.
