The Wii only consumes something like 20W when turned on and running. You have to wonder how the thing got hot enough to ignite. Presumably being an old console from 2007 or so the thing would have been caked in dust and the air intake on the thing is pretty small when you think about it. But still, 20W. Whatever it is, first time I've seen a story like this about the Wii and the thing has sold something like 100mill units. Dude was either doing something out of the ordinary or was just very, very unlucky....

 

I'd put my money on it being a dodgy third party power adapter or something.

How can that thing burn a house? I would expect the Xbox 360 to be able to do that. I didn't notice there was that much heat with a Wii.

Bad airflow, if it was cramped into a tight space and left On for too long things might start to fail.

also possible a defect cooler.
