All Fans stop spinning in msi silent mode

Hi there,

I was trying out the MSI silent mode in the MSI Gaming APP, but all case fans (including the CPU fan) stopped spinning. I was expecting that only the GPU was affected.

Is this kind of behaviour normal, and will the fans kick in if temperatures raise to high?

I am using a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard, and all case fans (including noctua d14) are connected to the intergraded fan hub included in my case. The fan hub itself is connected to a sata cable to get power, and to CPU_FAN1 for motherboard controls.

By the way, I am not using the MSI auto overclock, I did it by myself.

NOTE: I did a small stress test with AIDA64, the max temp reached 72 degress, but the fans won't start.

That's a pretty cool feature.

As long as temps are okay, you'll be fine.

Sig under construction.

It's normal until the temperatures get higher the fans wont kick in

Yeah, but I am concerted that is warming up the inside of the case slowly and cause overheating problems in stress tests like AIDA64. When I first saw it, the cpu did idle around 50 degress celcius.

undo silent mode and see if the fans start spinning again? i presume the fans dont spin until it reaches a certain temperature?

I tried that (in gaming mode), they start spinning again. It maxed out to 72 degress celcius in a short stress test, but they won't start.

if you're worried about temps, i would put it in gaming mode then :) but 72c is fine

Yeah I think I will do that. By the way, I runned the stress test all little bit longer, see image. The moment that the temperatures drop (max is 83 degress) is when I use the gaming mode option in the APP. I think the program is not working great.

this is personal preference, but i would just stop using the MSI gaming app and just leave the fans running manually. i'd do it to avoid any hassles etc.

Usually I don't like turning fans off completely because heat builds up quickly.  When they do turn on, they have to work extra hard to clear all the accumulated heat.

Most fans are essentially inaudible at low rpms.  I'd see if you can establish a custom fan curve using that software or through the BIOS.

Ok, small update. The fans kick in around 82 degress celcius, but I am keeping on the gaming mode for now.
