DVR recording to a PC?

Please ignore my terrible drawing.

 

So would it be possible to record my dvr to an external PC? i am willing to buy a capture card like an Elgato. ive heard some DVR's are encrypted though.

Why do you want a DVR ? if you already getting the Elgato ?

by dvr i mean the box that records and plays cable TV.

if i understand correctly this is what you will need: and fuck the elgato there are better capture cards.

heres how this will work... the reason why you need that splitter in there is because there will be latency, and the capture cards dont have 2 HDMi out, so its necessary, unless your using a laptop to record in that case you can watch on the laptop while recording.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.
