Would 4K 60FPS be possible on GTA 5 & Shadow of Modor with a Titan X and an i7-4790K?

Yes. Maybe a few settings should be lowered to achieve constant 60fps. Depends on the game.

A titan X is a bit stronger though and if he got the budget for it then it will be fine, although I would much rather get 1-2 980s.

It should last him quite a while.

I think the Titan X is alright for 4K gaming, but it may or may not be too early for it

A single titan x would have some problems, dual titans would pull ahead well enough though. even R9 295x2 would work.

 

Titan x was designed for rendering and processing, with gaming being a secondary, and less optimized, option of it's use.

Yeah, the R9 295X2 is a very card (or dual card..) if the game works well with Crossfire and AMD

GTA V not at max settings but damn close to.

 

Here's how it ran on a single 980 for me on high settings:

 

Don't know why the cutscenes were running so low, think it was because I was recording normally it's a constant 60 everywhere.

 

 

Shadow of mordor yes easily.

 

 

4K // R5 3600 // RTX2080Ti
