silicon lottery, generally 4.5ghz is probably the best speed overall taking into account voltage and power draw and he performance you get though most are capable of 4.7

my first fx8 did 5ghz and ran cinebench at 4.95 and im using a poxy old battered antec h620 (corsair h60)

but now spend most of my time deciding  between 4.5ghz 1.3v or 4.6ghz 1.33v

Yes, here are the settings I recommend -

 

Bus Clock = 250

Multiplier = 20

DRAM = 1600Mhz

Volts = 1.5v

 

If your cpu is average in lottery, that should work

You can but that chip voltage is really high. Shadow Rock 2 will have hard time cooling it.

should stick to multi overclocking from experience, its more noob friendly as it means no ht or nb multiplier changing and no fsb overclocks dont lead to better memory throughput etc as most benchmarks are within margin of error plus it often requires more nb voltage to increase stability which increases temps also 1.5v is terrible! 1.45v is the msot most people should run because by the time you hit 1.5v and close to 5ghz you need something like the ch5 and you do need a 240 rad or nh-d14 to keep it cool, you can get 95% of the performance with much lower thermals and power draw on a much cheaper msi 970 gaming or gigabyte 970a-du3p with only 1.45v MAX

Why?

because they're exactly the same chip, ive had 2 and while others might say "but they're binned better" both of my fx's have been 4.6ghz capable (havent tried higher with this one) and any possible binning isnt worth the additional cost.

from my experience

first fx8320, 1.375v VID took 1.45v to do 4.5ghz

current fx8320 1.225v VID on 1.296v for 4.5ghz idles at 1.306v, (1.33v under load for 4.6ghz, 1.306v under load).

fx8120, dog of a chip did 1.4v 4.3ghz and wouldnt clock higher regardless of voltage, was very cool running though.

Nope, FX has a different story. For me, my CPU can do 4.7 ghz @ 1.5 volts with Multiplier OCiing. But with Bus clock OCing, I can get 5ghz @ 1.5v

Sadly no you can't just toss a 50$ cooler on the 9590..that cpu gets extremely hot so hot it has to have a AIO included with the darn thing.

 

Just get the 8350 they aren't really that different from one another because of their architecture is the same.
