Twin Frozr 2600K! :D

KemoKa

I have a 2600K hooked up to a Seidon 240M, and it's a brilliant cooler, absolutely terrific. However, I also have a Define R4, a case which some of you may know is not exactly the most water-cooler-friendly case in the world. I needed the rad and fans both on the inside but because of clearance issues, I can't fit my fans and my rad inside at the same time without damaging the CPU power connector. So, to pretty much bypass that entire problem... I did this.

It's a set of fans I took out of a dead Twin Frozr card I had lying around. It's nice and low profile, just don't stick your hand in the machine while it's running...

the fans are relatively quiet, so that's pretty nice. It's idling my balls-to-the-wall OC'd CPU at about 32°C, which is really nice, pretty much the exact same as the SP120s I had in there.

I need to do some benchmarks to stress the CPU, see how much these fans need to ramp up. I'm not expecting the most kickass results, but it's nice for saving space.

Anyone else done anything like this? Let me know what you think! :D

It's... It's beautiful..

And ghetto-ish.

All that surface area going to waste.

How are you not able to fit the fans in there? There should be plenty of room; that case is very water-cooling friendly.

It's not, though. especially not with an Extreme9. there simply isn't enough room for both standard fans and the rad on the inside. Believe me, I had to have the rad on the outside of my case to have it work properly. That wasn't fun at all, basically ruined my case, I had to tear out one of the grills to get the CPU block in through the top. It's terrible. Define R4 is not as water-cooling friendly a case as I would have expected or liked. For any other purpose however, it's a terrific case.

Its a nice ghetto mod but those fans aren't built for static pressure. They also aren't shrouded so the air won't go through the rad fins efficiently. And the remaining surface area of the rad isn't getting any airflow.

It has more to do with the fact that air is actually going through the rad at all rather than covering the whole rad. Convection currents and stuff. And I know that they're not static pressure fans. I had SP120s for a damn good reason. It's just that I need these in the case for the time being. I'll pop them off when I get home and install the SP120s back. Does that satisfy your misgivings?

Easy man. I was just saying my opinion about them.

That's fine. Benchmarks will have to tell whether there's an actual performance difference between these and the 120s. My guess is that there will be one, but it will be pretty insignificant. the rad idles at 40 without fans at all, so it's perfectly capable of cooling the system passively on its own when it's not working hard. As long as you have air going through it, that's really all you need. Surprisingly the twin frozr fans do move air through the radiator rather nicely, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Did you try running the fans outside the case and rad inside? Just wondering.

Something like a pair of Scythe slipstream slim fans would have been better, but if it works, hey, more power to you.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.
