LG Super-Wide Monitors

FauxBreath

I was wondering whether anyone has any opinions about the LG 29UM67 monitor. This has arisen to me due to the recent LG 34UM67 video, and was wondering whether the extra £130 was worth getting the extra 5 inches. Or, is the 29" a good monitor? Which I would expect to be true due to it seeming to be a smaller version of the 34" one. I don't have any immediate plans to buy the monitor, however the 29" one being priced at around £300 gets me more interested. Thanks.

Unless you like gaming on a 22" monitor I wouldn't get it. Its way to short in height for me personally.

i have the 29um55 which is the 29" and its sufficient as i sit 1.5 feet away from my screen, otherwise i think the pixel density would be too low IMO

this is only the case if a game doesnt support the ultra wide, if it does (which i find most do) then its not

Theyll both be awesome and a working freesync monitor will be "lights-out amazing" anyway, just like a working gsync loop.

The only thing you need to do - is to download a 3rd party program like rivatuner and put up a global fps cap of 74hz for these 75hz monitors.

To NEVER let freesync reach its max cap or it will turn into vsync and add lots of lag or turn into a tearing.

Oh and there are very view games that absolutely dont work with 21:9.

I managed to even managed to get gta3, starcraft2, doom3 to run nativly on 2560x1080.

Thanks for the replies. I game on 2 x 24" monitors so i think i should be fine with the 29" but i might save up for the 34" for the sake of it.

wow face palm.....  no matter how "wide" the game is... that has no affect on its "height".

I understand the geometric of a rectangle but you state that he will be gaming on a 22" monitor, the monitor is 29" so no he wont, hed be gaming on a 29" monitor, only if a game was to be run in 16:9 would it be 22", i understand you point about height as it shares the same height as a 22" 16:9 but that got the same relevance as me then saying well if you turn it on its side you'd be gaming on 55" monitor as that shares the same height

..sssooo back to OP's question....

I actually had a 29UM65 for exactly 1 day before I sold it on ebay. My wife wasn't "impressed" with the 29

I loved it because it was good for our budget and looked perfect on our size desk. If you are a casual gamer it would be really nice.

With all that being said, we are not getting a 34inch ultrawide now. Not the UM95, I wish, probably the lower end model.

And I won't be gaming on it, it will be for productivity.

I find my 29 inch ultrawide to be perfect for a bit of gaming and abit of work if you're doing alot of either id look elsewhere perhaps the bigger one

The problem with current 21:9 displays is they are actually to small.

As som1 mentioned, a 29" 21:9 monitor is significantly shorter in height than a 16:9 29" screen. Even when running a game natively at 21:9 u still have to deal with the shorter vertical space.

If/when 21:9 screen start coming out around the 42" size, that's when u will finally see the true benefits of 21:9.

You can even get an idea of what such a screen would be like if u have access to a 42"+ screen.

I myself use a 42" Plasma, if I create a custom 21:9 resolution, then turn scaling off, u get a 21:9 letter box image on the screen, effectively showing u what a 'large' 21:9 screen would look like. And I can tell you this, its awesome.

Forced 21:9 on a 42" 16:9 screen is equivalent to a 40" 21:9 screen.

I cant wait to see some large 21:9 screens preferably in OLED and 2160p res. (note, I Know 55"+ ones exist, but they end up being to big)
