Modem and Router Suggestions?

rdeng2614

I am using a wireless connection and I feel like sometimes my Internet gets SUPER slow, like my connection disconnected for second or something. Recently, my internet has been disconnecting quite a bit, it would disconnect for like an hour or so and then come back.

I need to upgrade my Modem because my current one is about to fail. Any suggestions?

Do I need to upgrade my router? I am currently using a Cisco Linksys e1200.

The only other device that uses my network is my mother who constantly streams videos on her iPad so do you think I need a dual-band router?

Thanks

For disconnecting issues, I would suggest the problem is your modem. Just a quick question, what is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

Cox is my ISP and I think it is cable internet.

Okay. Thank you for that. Okay, so based on what you have given me, assuming you have the Cox Service Protection Plan (or you will have to pay for the service), I would call Cox and tell them about your issues and if they own the modem, they should replace it, especially if you have the Cox Service Protection Plan.

If you don't have the Cox Service Protection Plan, don't want to do a service call, or you own the modem, then I would recommend buying a new modem. In this case, you would want to buy one of these, here.

In regards to the router, I think it should be fine for what your mother is doing.

Most of the equipment given default by the ISP is pretty low quality and can't function very well.
