Router Best for Gaming?

So out of manny routers ive seen the best is the netgear nighthawk triband ac router but I cannot fully trust just a comment so how good is that router and or others that are great for gaming

(My pc is hardwired so mainly one that is smart to just evenly split data and pick the more hungry one over a damn tablet in my house)

Pretty much any Router will work fine, you don't need anything special or 'gaming' grade, you're just paying the for the 'gaming' part of the the name

NO SUCH THING AS A GAMING ROUTER / GAMING OPTIMIZED ROUTER.

I'm pretty sure linus said something like this too "there is no such thing as a gaming headset, just a decent audio headset".

Read the reviews and check for people reporting packet loss and read the max internet speed on the specs.

If you only use the wired connection almost any router with a Gigabit port will do almost all routers have this but if you want a good overall router I  can really recommend the Asus AC series.

i have an ASUS RT-AC68U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1900 it pretty much does the job and then some. :) but Any router would do so long as you know that you won't max out the bandwidth of the thing

edit: i had the wrong model when i first posted this :) already changed it

You're saying you can't optimize a router for better speeds?

Port Forwarding..?

You can't open/close ports?

There are literally thousands of articles all over the web from reputable sites such as PCMag, ExtremeTech, etc, about optimizing a router for gaming.. And yes, it does work.

Unless of course Linus mentioned it once 4 years ago....

Thanks, and the reason I ask is because some routers are smarter then other so for ex. 50 devices connected to my network and my pc was the main priority it would give more bandwith to that then the other devices causing less connection lag. But anyway thanks!

I just got a Netgear Nighthawk 802.11ac router yesterday. It's excellent. I get a very strong 5GHz signal throughout my house. My speedtest is the same regardless of my distance from the router. I haven't gamed on it yet but I probably will sometime today.

Implying doing any of that has any effect.

It has no effect what so ever. None that would matter in games anyway.

If there's multiple devices on the network then you would want something pretty powerful to handle the traffic, most of the routers if not all that ShadowCaptain listed would do. I would recommend one's from Asus, I've had very good experience with my Asus RT-N66U and some of their other stuff.
