Best drone with 1080p for $1000 USD

hey everybody!

I have recently gotten in to RC helicopters, and wanted to expand my range a little bit. I'm looking into quad-copters/drones and wanted to get an opinion on the best one for getting some aerial footage. My budget is $1000. I was looking at the Bebop with sky controller, but I would like to look at a few others before i make a decision.

Thanks!

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

Something that has a Gimbal and standalone camera, like a Gopro or similar. MAYBE a small compact camera or mirrorless DSLR.

Then over $1k you could start looking at something that can carry a full DSLR.

I dont have any specific unit to reccomend, as I am just getting into it myself.

Build your own drone, then you can choose the camera you want, like a GoPro...

It isn't actually that hard and you can save heaps of money. It is mostly just plugging in a bunch of cables and doing some very basic soldering. Check out www.flitetest.com they have heaps of plans and detailed build videos that you can follow.

Don't bother with the Bebop; it's gotten severely mixed reviews and is very fragile. Something with an equal featureset would be the 3D Robotics IRIS+ and a GoPro for optics, but this does push it to just a tad above 1K.

@TheMastr13

Do not build your own if you want one for video. Building one for video is going to run you the same and if you want to focus on getting video first, go after the platform that is actually designed ground up for it.

DJI Phantom 2 with the DJI Zenmuse Gimbal. I have one. Exceptionally stable. That package on its own can run around 650-800, then factor in the cost of a Hero 3 GoPro (the gimbals are tuned to the specific GoPro models for balance reasons, so do not try and shove anything else into one)

Do not get the Vision units. The cameras are not as good as the GoPro ones (the Visions can shoot RAW images however). They allow you to use your phone/tablet to view the feed while flying BUT their range is substantially diminished and you can add FPV to a regular Phantom anyways.

If you want more information, PM me. I fly quite a bit and do video more than anything. Building your own is nice for racing quads or just for fun builds, but those who build platforms for video capture end up spending several thousands on the flight controllers and gimbals anyways (DJI is heavy in the aerial imaging front, their A2 controllers and S800/S1000 frames are studio staples these days)
