SSD Help Please

Spewky

Hi, I'm planning to put a Samsung 850 EVO with 250GB of storage into my build and I have a couple questions.

1. Will making it a boot drive still let me put games on it for faster load speeds?

2. Will putting games or software like Steam on it make them open when turning my PC on if it's a boot drive?

If you can help, please reply below.

Thanks :)

1. Yes

2. It depends on your setting within each application. You can decide for each program whether or not you want it to open when you boot into windows

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

yes and no. I recommend keeping steam on another drive if you have one as steam folders can get HUGE and it doesn't help load times that much.

for me, every other program is on the SSD along with my most played game at the time.

Okay. I'm hoping to get a 2TB WD Green drive. I'll store it there :)

If you can afford it, I'd recommend getting a WD Black. There's nothing wrong with WD Greens (despite what a lot of people say), but for games a WD Black would be ideal.

What's the difference between them and why is Black better? I'll go look and see how much they are.

EDIT: Where I live they are DOUBLE the price compared to a Green...

Blacks have better performance than Greens, and that's basically it. If it's double the price then idk. That seems like a lot more and if you have the money to spare, then go for it, but don't go around nerfing other components in your build just so you can fit a Black in your budget cause it's not that important. It's just nice to have something a little faster than a Green.

I got my WD Black 4TB at a really good price though so you might get lucky if you wait for a sale.
