Web devs, we need you!

Yes that is right!

Me and 2 other friends are trying to create a video sharing website like YouTube.

This is all for fun and we're not trying to compete with YouTube :)

Requirments:

  • Must be atleast 13 years of age
  • Have acess to Google Hangouts, Skype or Steam chat
  • Have basic knowledge at PHPMyAdmin and MYSQL
  • Have a decent degree of knowledge in  HTML, PHP, CSS and JavaScript
  • Have time and be commited :D

Proposed design for the site ( NOT FINAL! )

Alpha design

We hope to make the development fully open source in the near future :)

We also have a full development forum, where you can help us if you want :)

I just started learning code so I'm basically useless for that, but I can definitely help making concepts and assets for the design! I worked on the LTT Firefox extension design, and I'd love to help yours look as nice as can be.

A website can be useful, but if it looks broken and unattractive, it's a bust :D

I'd also be at least partially willing to do concepts :)

Please note though that I'm not that good with PS, and I'm only learning

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*

I'm currently studying HTML and CSS so I don't think I can be any help with my basics... :D

I will PM you all within the next 30 minutes :)

Send me a PM if you are interested in having me help.

PS: I have worked with HTML in the past so it should come back to me easily.

Not gonna lie, the website I've been developing over the past week is practically this. Although, it uses YouTube embeds to serve video files. You're gonna need a hefty webserver or an expensive CDN to reliably server video content of high quality

I am good at computer

Spoiler

Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 sniper 3 | CPU: Intel 3770k @5.1Ghz | RAM: 32Gb G.Skill Ripjaws X @1600Mhz | Graphics card: EVGA 980 Ti SC | HDD: Seagate barracuda 3298534883327.74B + Samsung OEM 5400rpm drive + Seatgate barracude 2TB | PSU: Cougar CMX 1200w | CPU cooler: Custom loop

Honestly, I'd still just  use the YouTube player API. You can remove all YouTube branding and even use a custom video player these days, it's essentially exactly the same as what you have now, but YouTube hosts it. Combine that with the YouTube data API and you can get just about anything working. That way all you'll need to store in the video database is a YouTube video id, that's it. And of course there is the YouTube analytics API if you need that stuff as well, but I've never looked into it, I can generate my own analytics fairly easily. If it's something you're interested in, here's some code that will extract the video id from pretty much any YouTube link, including embeds and the old YouTube links

preg_match('#(\.be/|/embed/|/v/|/watch\?v=)([A-Za-z0-9_-]{5,11})#', $_POST['link'], $matches);	if(isset($matches[2]) && $matches[2] != ''){        $vid = $matches[2];

I just saw the other thread relating to this website.. Was kinda appalled at the responses, if you guys need a hand I can help with some things, but as mentioned above, I'm currently developing my own video serving website among a few other sites, so I might be somewhat busy
