Build for a friend

Sorry guys I didn't have the time for a full build log, but I just wanted to show you the finished product. So my friend has finally decided to get into pc gaming with me and ditched his xbox. He spent way more than I would have on his first rig but he's glad he did. This was my second build, and as you can tell from you first picture(my rig, first build), I have discovered cable management. Soon enough, those optical drive cages will be removed and the rig will be fitted with some awesome watercooling. 360*60 up top and 280*80 up front, haven't planned out the rest just yet.. The 212 evo is just a temporary placeholder.

 

Components:

 

FD Arc Midi R2

MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming

4770k (stock speeds for now)

EVGA gtx780 (stock speeds for now)

G.skill Ripjaws 2133 cas 9 ram 16gb

Samsung 840pro 128gb

Seasonic 650 watt psu

 

I'm pretty sure that's it.

I do agree that he spent more than he should have though.

-16GB ram

 -high frequency 

 -low latency

-i7 for gaming

 

all the parts bought are great quality,but I think the ones I listed are a bit excessive for gaming purposes,though should he ever want to try video editing or streaming he'll have hardware more than capable of it?

 

also is there an HDD at all?because 128GB is awfully small.

Ya I will be getting the same case as well. Love the watercooling capabilities it comes with. Rad options being one of the biggest.

He works as a mechanical designer/drafter, he got the cpu and ram so it could speed up solidworks and keyshot 3d model renders, but its primarily for gaming. Is high frequency ram and low latency a bad combo?

No I removed all cages because 128gb is fine for him (at least he thinks so), and it was necessary for the future rads. He uses an external drive for all his media.

BTW, I am blown away at how much his 780 blows my 680 out of the water, frame rates are comparable to 680 sli frame rates in bf3! Anyone interested in a 680?  :P

no,high frequency and low latency are ideal for 3d modeling/animation and video editing.

but for gaming anything better than 1600mhz CL10 is more or less a waste of money.

isn't there 2 spaces for 2.5" drives in the back?you could buy a 2.5" 500GB HDD.

Yes there is room for one more, but he uses an external for media and other things, so he should be fine with a 128gb ssd:)

lol I understand that but the reads and writes on external drives tend to be significantly lower than internal drives.just something to consider.

Looks very nice and tidy. Was there any particular reason he decided to go with air cooling for the CPU? Just to save a bit on the overall cost or was he not too interested in a high overclock?
