How long do you define as "quite a while"? Most laptops are generally only good for around 3-4years. Are you after a laptop for gaming, or is this more for study?

why do u want to spend $3000 on a laptop for gaming when u have a decent desktop i mean i would understand if it was cheaper around $1000-$1500 and gaming was not all you were going to be doing

nvm

If you're looking into that type of budget, I personally think the ASUS G751 series notebooks are in the top 3 for gaming.  Latest i7 processor with latest GTX 900m series GPUs.  Now days there's really no "future proofing" anything because something better will always come out in 4 months, but this is about as high end as you'll get for that budget and will be a solid rig for a few years.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232204&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Gaming+Laptops-_-N82E16834232204&gclid=COb3kqqomcICFQVafgodZiIA7w

Well if you are getting deployed to any inhospitable area a Toshiba Toughbook because all other laptops will die in non-office environments due to the elements. Toughbooks are pricey though ~$2K USD and on the low end of performance. Again, if in inhospitable areas any non Toughbook laptop is good as dead.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

Something with 16GB of ram, high end i7, sli 970m, 1080p display, and a fairly large SSD should last a good four years. Aorus X7 pro comes to mind

RIP in pepperonis m8s

Yeah ok, Id say then get one of the new laptops with a gtx 970 3gb, 17.5 inch screen, 12gb of ram, and i7 processor in it. you can get a decent one for around 1500 on newegg. Im Partial to MSI but i think Asus would also be a very good choice.

There is no thing as future-proofing. You cannot know how demanding games can be in the future.

Buy something which suits your needs TODAY. You might save some money for your next Laptop/PC for other demanding games in the future.
