Air coolers for my FX-8320.

Alex7

Hello everyone!

I need some advice for air cooling for my AMD FX 8320 3.5Ghz processor. It's my 1st time buying non stock coolers and I'm wondering if these two are any good for overclovking my processor to 4.0 Ghz or maybe even more?
Coolers: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/scythe-tatsumi-cooler.html   (30€)

              http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/cpu-cooler-roundup-2013-q1-review,5.html (41€)

Thanks in advance!

sadly, that's too much for my budget, since I have to buy other components too... :\

The thing is, overclocking an AMD FX octacore is gonna be a bit problematic with a cooler budget of 30-40 euro... Those things get pretty hot so you might have to compromise on the overclock a bit.

I see. So what would be an appropriate Ghz number to overclock with any one of these two coolers. But if its really not recomended, than I should just get like 50-100€ budget?

Not necessarily... It depends on how well the cpu overclocks. Just push it until it hits about 60 Celsius under load. That might be with less than 4Ghz but it also might be more.

60*C is completely safe? Are you completely sure?

CPU: AMD FX 8350 | GPU: AMD R9 270 Windforce | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB | Case: X Predator X1 |CPU COOLER: Hyper T4

NAZIS WILL RISE.

Well its not optimal but its safe.. Theres no official max operating temp from AMD afaik. But the common consensus seems to be that it shouldnt exceed 60C while running.

I think FX start throttling @ around 80C...

Yup, search as I might not found a lot regarding heat on AMD.

Mine, with this on: http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=378  sits in a well well vented case at 45>50c tick over (basic net surfing etc) and when worked hard it tops out at 65*c but I also have it set for being as quiet as possible.
Might test it with the fan on full (which sounds like a 747 taking off when the ASUS suite tests it) and see what it reaches on a stress test. But in the quiet profile I have when rendering images (sometimes a 2+ hour job that involves going out for a coffee) and it never goes above 65*c.

Should also point out its a 4.2 overclock thats stable. Oh and on that, you need to disable the AUTO (boost) in BIOS or it screws up any attempt. Crashed all the time till I disabled that, AERO would stop and other windows features on top of everything else...

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!
