BSOD on new build at start up after updating BIOS

Hi all,

After running a new build comprising an ASUS Z97i-plus and i7-4970 in windows 7 pro 64bit for the past couple of days without any hiccups, I decided to install the latest version of AiSuite. After looking through the various apps that are included in the suite I felt it would be a good idea to update the BIOS to the latest version using the EZFlash app.

Upon manually updating the BIOS through the app the computer requested a restart. After POSTing normally with the latest BIOS the computer started loading W7 Pro and then blue-screened after 2seconds.

So I tried rebooting, same thing again. Decided to use the troubleshoot startup that appears after failure to load windows. No joy.

So I decided the issue was the BIOS, downloading the older version (2103) to a USB then rolled the BIOS version back using the UEFI. This didn't fix the problem. Still crashing after 2seconds with an incredibly fast BSOD and then auto restart.

Tried reinstalling windows from the disk, thinking that the SSD had decided to play silly buggers. This seemed to work as I was able to boot into windows after setting up login and computer name. Installed the latest AMD graphics driver and restarted…after POSTing the windows logo appeared as all the times previously and then after 2seconds BSOD.

In desparation I tried my other rig's SSD with windows 7 home 64bit on it, thinking that the issue was the installation of windows, but unfortunately the same thing occurred – 2 seconds of loading then blue screen o' doom.

Please help! UEFI works fine and only a single, normal, beep at boot. Is it the motherboard or could it be something else?

Hello Biggles :) Does that Z97 motherboard have a digital readout-display to inform you whether it may be a ram error or something?

Can you also say include other specs if possible. Other info like..which sata ports are linked to which hdd/ssd, are you able to get into the BIOS without BSOD?

I would check your BIOS settings for the HDD. Sometimes you can get a BSOD if the HDD is set to IDE instead of AHCI...that was a lot of acronyms. Anyways, since you flashed the BIOS it may have changed that setting as well. It's usually in the BIOS under "Storage" and you'll see a mode selection. AHCI is the one you want 99% of the time. I'm suggesting this since you've swapped hard drives with different OSs on them.
