Crucial M500 2.5" vs M.2 form factor

keroro185

Hi there,

So while the M.2 version of the M500 has benefits like reducing cable clutter in your rig, what are it's disadvantages when compared to the the standard 2.5" version?

Are the components used the same?

Are their performances similar?

Thanks

The only difference is the form factor and connector type.

the advantages of the m.2 is the size and potential speed the disadvantage is that it uses PCIe lanes which could be factor in setups with a lot of the lanes being used

You also have to make sure that whatever length of m.2 drive you get is compatible with your motherboard. And that you have enough PCI lanes, but unless you're running quad GPU systems, you should have no problems with that, so don't worry about it.

Components and performance are the same, however either way I'd still get something other then an M500

Which M.2 ssd would you suggest then? I'm only looking for one with a SATA 3 host connection.

Does it have to be M.2?

Yh

All M.2 SSDs are pretty good. My particular favorite are the Transcend ones.
