GTX 970 vs 770 1080p

So I don't really plan to upgrade my monitor any time soon (am waiting for 4k g sync to be more affordable) so my 1080p monitor will be fine for a while. Problem is, looks like my balls to the walls OCed 470 might be finally quitting on me. Is it worth the extra coin to go gtx 970 (Assuming they come back in stock soon) or just get a 770? Either way I will get them on water with my kraken cpu cooler and custom mount, so I should be able to get a pretty healthy OC going if the chip is decent. I honestly don't even game much anymore either, but if the 970 is so much better than a 770 which it doesn't really look to be according to benchmarks, I would consider it.

 

*EDIT* I know the 970 is better, but I am talking strictly 1080p.... is it worth the extra power to drive a game at 1080p, or will a 770 power through just about anything already anyways...?

if you ever plan on going to 4k, get the 970.

I blow through most games at 1080p currently on my 2GB GTX 770 at 40FPS+, so you should be fine now.

Issue here is, if I do go 4k I would probably buy a new GPU to really push it. Because while a 970 can do it, it can't do it very well... In 6-8 months or even a year when I decide to go 4k, the GPU's that will be out will be MUCH better at driving 4k and I see myself upgrading GPU again anyways. Or am I mistaken, and a 970 would be *adequate* for 4k gaming with g sync to help smooth out that 40+ FPS drops?

2 970's in SLI should be capable of around 40fps in ultra settings 4k games for the most part.

If you can find a 770 for like 230, I'd get that. Also since you dont game much anymore, I wouldn't put so much money into a GPU.

Problem is, when I do game, it can't suck. lol. This is the guy who got a 8800 GTS 640 Superclocked simply to play crysis 1. 

 

Looks like I could get a 770 for around 250...

I'd go with that, considering the 970 is 100 more and wont really matter much in 1080p gaming. 

 

I use a 750ti to game 1080p and I am fine.

Hmm, not much OC headroom. Little bit of a downer, but then again, probably wont matter much. Should still kill 1080p gaming.

Since you're planning to buy new GPU's when you go 4k anyways and my quite heavily OC'd 7950 can almost max out any game at 1080p I'd go with the 770, unless money isn't an issue.

I will have the core under water, so at least heat will certainly not be my limiting factor for overclocking.
