Recommend me a durable laptop/netbook

warpig

While my current Asus k55 has served me well over the last two years, it's a little bulky and flimsy for me to go schlepping around campus with it without fear of destroying it.

My main prioritys are durability and compactness. I'll be running Linux, so power is not really a concern. I'd prefer a screen under 14 inches. I'm not conerned with "thin and light" I'd prefer to keep it under $400, but I'd be willing to go far over that if I must to get what I want.

Unfortunately durability is an expensive trait for laptops. The thinkpad line by lenovo will fit your needs. Maybe check out their online depot to see if you can get a deal on an older model.

I've given the thinkpad line some consideration, the x140 seems to fit my needs and my budget, however I've heard Lenovo has striped the features that gave the think pad line its reputation. Is this true, and is Lenovo really my only option if I want something that won't receive major damage if I drop it from standing height?
