Virus?

Go to solution Solved by Zyphera,

Nice finding! I'm happy you found out what the heck it was. I know the feeling of having unwanted things on your computer. Now we will always now what that icon is off.

Hi everyone am having this problem with my computer where I am getting a small blue globe with a green arrow down on my notification bar. I am using windows 7 BTW. Every time I use my computer this icon would pop up for 1-2 minutes and then go away. I tried clicking it and nothing happens but when I right click I get the option of EXIT. I hate it so much because I don't know what it does and it scares me to think it could be harvesting information and password. I tried multiple virus and malware detection programs and I still see this thing popping up in my notification pane. I have attached a small snippy picture of the culprit can someone tell me what it is and what it does please.post-50310-0-57045600-1413754322.png

Check your process tree and your uninstall page, it might be something you installed by accident or someone else installed.

Have you gone through installed programs to look for anything that sounds weird? Something installed you have never heard of? I will assume you tried malwarebytes.... and if you are really desperate, cross check online every process running on your computer that you are unsure of.

Yeah. This. And try other stuff like AVG.

Could be, or it could be a crashing piece of adware.  I work for AVG,  and while its still better than Avast in terms of detection and removal, its been taking a bit of a dump recently.

So, I recommend using these programs:  Eset Online Scanner, Emsisoft  Emergency Kit https://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/ , F-secure online scanner http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/home_global/online-scanner .

Eset: Good at detection most of the bad stuff, its got really stable signatures.  Don't believe lab tests, their signatures are the best real world signatures ever.

Emsisoft:  Emsisoft uses a combination of Bitdefender and Emsisoft, meaning its got really good detection.

F-secure online scanner:  Hell yeah, Mikko Hypponen FTW!

Just an FYI, Conexant is just a Fax Modem driver, they also make SD Card Readers. If the computer happens to have a fax modem in it, then that's what the conexant is.

All the listed programs seems to be legit to me.

What process is ended when you kill that icon down the bar? Click on "Show processes from all users" and look for what line that is removed from the list when you kill it.

Umm the icon is a update tool of some sort.  ASUS EZ Update uses a very similar icon.

General rule of thumb, if you have some program on your computer and you don't know what it is - time for a clean install of Windows.

Even if you remove this rogue program, you have no idea what other software was installed with it OR what all it has already done to your computer.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

It turns out you guys were right about the source of the problem and it being an updater. Thanks for your help.
