Silent Hill series, which should I beat first (Well, second really)?

I beat homecoming like two years ago, I liked it a bit, but I think I'd like the atmosphere and the story of the other games more if I gave them a shot.

Is it necessary to beat the first game, first? I have it, but I want to emulate it instead and my ISO is always coming out with no sound in certain places... guess I could just play it on the PS3 (I think, not actually sure if it's backwards compatible, if not then I can just play it on my PS2).

I also have 2, 3, 4, origins, and downpour.
