Think I may buy into SC...

Kryptyx

I've never played EVE or any space/fight simulators before but I have played a few MMOs in the past. I like some of the ideas SC has going for it but I am really lost when it comes to picking out a good ship. I'm leaning towards the Hornet as I would like to PVP but then I noticed there are different versions of the Hornet. The stealthed version seems ideal for me as that is the type of play I prefer but I was wondering if it comes at any big disadvantage or if it simply isn't a good choice for this type of game. The stealthed hornet is $140 for the combo pack.

Additionally, how is performance now? I noticed early threads saying it was terrible. I'd hope my system would be okay for this game (see sig).

Which ship you wants depends on what you want to spend now, and what you want to do, if you want access to try it out go for a cheaper ship to start, you can always trade the package in and then use that credit + more $ to get the more expensive options.

Performance wise i'm not sure if SLI has been fixed, my friend had issues when sli is enabled regardless a single 780ti shouldn't have a problem playing the game. for 1080p my 3570k + 780 plays it just fine

I've got a standard 300i by Origin Jumpworks.

Performance wise I can play 1080p at usually 50+ FPS on my system. (2600K, 8GB RAM, GTX 670FTW)

It is quite frustrating at first to understand what to buy , i was in the same boat.

I eventually settled on a Fighter type ship package (Avenger) because of a few things

1. you cant use these larger ships yet

2. Huge differences in price vs single seater packages vs multi crew ships

3. If your not into a bunch of real life memorabilia then the larger packs may not be for you as most of your Cash seems to be going towards that .

4. Its been said you should be able to earn ships in about a week hardcore playing which may be worth the saved cash.

5. racing

Just take your time to familiarize yourself if your unsure . there's no hurry to jump in so make sure you know what you want before you leap in.

the official forums have alot of info on all the benefits and packs.

@Kryptyx This video is a pretty good for starters. Also remember you can "melt" any ship/package to get back the money(as in-game credit) if you don't like it.

Regarding performance the main issue I've found is I am maxing out the VRAM almost always, but I get 50ish frames @1440p very high settings on my single 780, though that will change once they actually implement AA and AF into the engine.

For the ships I would say go for something that you can afford comfortably, you will be ably to upgrade if you see something you like better and once we are in the full game you will be able to get other ships as well.

As for performance it is a little hit and miss at the moment, due to the development stage we are in so it is very hard to say what the final requirements will be. For me it has always been alright but I am not the fussiest player when it comes to frames per second and so on for others it has always been terrible.

To be fair, no. With a system like that he should know what he's talking about and using one GTX 780Ti is more then enough.

Also I did not make it grey, it's copy+paste from his sig.

Look I'm not going to derail this to much but you can be into gaming or software or rendering without caring about the hardware or your pc. Hell I build a lot of PCs but if you look at my old threads when it comes to my PC I over think it and need to ask questions I already know the answer too.

Some people seriously need to figure that it's OK on this forum not to know what your talking about.

Well the latest patch made performance even better, the way I hear it. Haven't gotten the chance to read through the massive list of updates, but I did see that SLI/Crossfire has been fixed, so yay for that! :)

SLI has been fixed now... well at least for me and every patch keeps getting better and better. They are releasing the 325A into AC tomorrow.
