Price no object, weight no object, size no object, battery life no object? Alienware 18/17 if you don't need SLI.

Don't shoot me, he said price doesn't matter.

I'd pick Asus for its cooling.. MSI is not as strong on cooling as ASUS.. IMO i don't want any uncomfortable heat while playing

Mobo: Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 CPU: Intel Core i7 3770k @ 4.3ghz GPU: Asus GTX 770 Direct CU II SLI RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinums 4x4g 1866 PSU: Seasonic M12II 850w Bronze Storage: Samsung 840 Pro 256g x 2 (Raid 0) - WDC Black 1tb Case: Corsair 500R

I was going to buy the G750JZ 32GB RAM one but I ended up just getting a MacBook Pro with an Nvidia Graphics card.

Reason why I went for the MacBook Pro is because I also needed it for college. I can game on the MacBook Pro and also do college shtuff.

But if you're only going to game I'd say go for the G750Jz. Their are many new Asus gaming computers going to be released soon because of the next gen products. I'd wait if you're not in a hurry.

I'd still pick Asus G750JZ... "IF" its only for gaming for mobility larger resolution go for Razer blade.. but picking higher res over performance would be a wise move..

Also you just said it yourself that

Personally, I'd want to max out the level of hardware if I had the $2500 budget you have. That means a GTX 880M, and you're not going to get that in a ultrathin laptop like the Razer Blade. If you want something thin and portable, however...I'd probably pick the MSI GS60/70 or one of the Gigabyte Ultrablade laptops instead.

The Asus G750JZ is a good choice, but be prepared for a 8-10 pounds laptop. The MSI GT72 theoretically should be a good choice too, since it's moving to a dual fan design as opposed to the GT70's single fan, but I don't know if there have been any reviews out yet.

So my vote is probably for the Asus, although it's kinda unfriendly when it comes to maintenance. The Sager NP9570 with SLI GTX 880M's would almost be an option, but it costs $2,550. If you'd want a SSD in your laptop (which you absolutely should at your budget) it'd cost another $100-$200 depending on the size you wanted. Sager laptops are typically very good in price/performance and are pretty maintenance and upgrade friendly.

I just got the Aorus X3, its amazing. I travel a lot for work, so gaming on the go, with a SUPER lightweight laptop is critical for me.

Love it.

  • 3 weeks later...

hey @RMXSeven,

nice to find someone that has a X3 - do you have the X3 or the X3 plus?

some questions if you do not mind:

- how is the build quality - people go on about it so I just want to find out if is really an issue or if it is just subjective?

- is heat a problem under normal operation?

- is noise a problem?

- there are some videos on youtube about screen flicker, keyboard flex and top lid flex - have you found any of these to be an issue?

would you bu this laptop again? and what were the competitors for your cash ?

thx for the help

Hey PuttyQ,

I'm happy to answer EVERYTHING.

Originally, I was going to get the X3 Plus for the .6" difference and the higher res. Due to delays to Australia with the X3 Plus, I opted for the non-plus... Which I shall call X3-prime... cause it sounds cool lol.

Actually happy that the delay happened in the end. With the X3-prime, I run Final Fantasy XIV in native res, which looks great!. The X3-plus has to drive 50% more pixels or so, so I suspect performance would suffer beyond gameability, meaning you would need to half the res, which is just a little too low for me.

A lot of people have complained about build quality, but these seem to ALL tie in with the original iteration of the X7, not the X3.

IMHO, The X3's build quality is on par with the best. To give a bit of background, I'm an IT professional, and for the past 12 years, I've been an Apple fanboy. I love the build quality of the Macbook's. I also own an Asus G73-JH, which I've given to my nephew as he wants to get into Game Dev stuff. I'm REALLY happy with the build quality. Everything plugs in fine, the keyboard is up to spec, and the touchpad, although glass, and can get a little stiction, is still pretty awesome. To date, nothing compares to the Macbook's touchpad, but this runs circles around the Asus touchpads... I hate those...

For heat, NO PROBLEMS at all. I consider my self a power user. "Normal Operation" including things like web browsing, and light media don't cause the fans to spin up to an audible point. It runs really quietly. When gaming, FFXIV for example @ 2560x1440 native res causes liftoff... as expected lol. This goes on and off throughout gameplay depending on what is rendered in scene. Doing things like crafting incur no real audible work... which is impressive. Scenes with lots of other players and action is another story. I also do some light 3d rendering and modeling in some advanced software. With basic models, it phases in and out of fanage. Once you start working on even slightly complex models, everything spins up... which in my books is fine. It's a 13" laptop, and it's running with the big boys. The fans at full blast are a little much. My wife is a heavy sleeper, so I can do some gaming in bed without disturbing her, but your average human would NOT appreciate the full blown fan noise. Gaming with headphones alleviates this.

For the youtube vidz, did you see ones with the X3?  I've had NO flicker issues, the keyboard doesn't flex beyond what I would care about... feels pretty solid, and the lid, yeah I guess it can flex a little. Sitting on a solid table, its not an issue. When using on lap, I guess it does shudder a little...

Would I buy it again given the choice? Definitely!

I narrowed my choice down to 3 machines:

MSI GS60

Razer Blade (14")

Aorus X3

Money for me was no issue. I travel a LOT for work, spending weeks in other cities (Like Brisbane, where there is NOTHING to do). What was important was a good compromise of portability and performance.

The X3 fits under the seat in front of you on planes, and it means I no longer need to bring my PS4 in my checked luggage... The X3 performs WAY better than any console too (PC Master Race),

After looking at the benchmarks for the MSI, I ruled it out. Plus, I HATE Australia tax... both the Blade and the GS60 are like $1000 more than buying in the states... If you check out Razers site, you can change your location and see how much we are getting ripped off.. The Aorus seems to be much more reasonable in that regard, the SSD performance is outstanding... I love it, and it was cheaper than the Blade, which has a little worse spec btw.

Ping me if you have any other questions... at this point, I'm tempted to write up a whole User Review on it lol.

I really appreciate the feedback. I am also stoked that Linus posted a review of the X3 Plus today. It just helps to see things and get another opinion. I will make a choice in next week and let you know what I decide.

Thx again
