  1. I've been watching the latest overwatch open matches lately (In particular the NRG matches and cloud9 ones), and can't wait for the exhibition world matches coming up. It's really exciting as a spectator, and it keeps getting better. I hope it booms.
  2. I'm waiting for the Aorus X5 v6 to be reviewed with temp details. I've spoken to Metabox (Australian Clevo works) and the P650RS-G with a 1070 weighs in at around 2.6kgs, but after over an hour of benchmarking, doesn't go beyond 84 degrees celcius. So, if the Aorus throttles, I'll be getting that myself! Another 2 weeks and we will know!
  3. I work with Sophos a lot, and am pretty happy with them. One potential issue though is if you have RAID 0, I've found their on-access scanning can be a bit temperamental, but its still good, plus free, plus cloud based management.
  4. For all those interested, STILL awaiting shipment. Massive delays, over a year later expected. Will post once I ACTUALLY get it!
  5. I'm actually about to make something similar out of some offcut timber shelving I have. I will route a divot out for the keyboard to sit in so it doesn't slide around, same for the mousepad. Currently, I use a stabletable to play overwatch from bed, issue is, starting to get RSI in my left hand due to lack of wrist-rest. Will post in the build section once complete!
  6. Hey, So that's the total package. Others advice around booting into safe mode and installing/running that AV is def a good start. When a similar thing happened to me (looking for NFS support for Windows 10) I did my due diligence. Downloaded the file, scanned it using Sophos AV, uploaded it to a sandbox provider that reported that it wasn't malware, even checked out Virus Total, however, still managed to have some browser hijacking components in it I ended up formatting, as even though I got everything "cleaned" I wasn't confident it was entirely cleaned. Not worth the risk IMHO. Consider for next time, (and I will too lol) sandboxing apps yourself, that is, running something like virtualbox for free, with a windows OS on it, having Kaspersky installed there, then installing new risky software on it first, see if there are any issues, then install on your actual PC. Good luck!
  7. I travel a lot for work and bring my gaming laptop with me, this would be awesome in my hotel rooms!
  8. Well written article. Once you remove the layer of discord that is Most people don't think of such things. Working in security myself, things like this are always on my mind, but most people don't think twice about it. The serial entrepreneur thing is scary. Need to be sure I don't turn into that guy myself lol.
  9. Fair call on the chinese front. Admittedly I've been scared off by a previous experience. The thing is, we will be using this for business use to some extent for some small anodised aluminium parts that we can't really afford to risk with... I guess this is still a risk when you think about it. Actually, we were part way through designing our own laser diode system, which would allow home users to do basic mods, etch into anodised aluminium (our main requirement) and do things like cut/perforate card stock for shipping etc. This ticks all the boxes, so I bit the bullet... Shipping to Australia is insane though... $675! US!
  10. For hardcore work like cutting the windows themselves, luckily my best friend has his own machine shop mill, much like the one Linus used to cheat during scrapyard wars! EDIT: Oh and I will definitely do a review on it here.
  11. I've been in the market for an affordable laser cutter for a while now. Especially after the last MOD24 event. The options available up to this point have been pretty lacklustre, and also somewhat unsafe and not user friendly... or extremely expensive. There is a new product (that I've just ordered) called Glowforge... it looks to be everything I've been looking for. This would be great for etching onto cases (anodised aluminium) as well as doing custom acrylic work, like making your own case windows, with your logo/artwork etched into them, with some wicked LED backlighting... Has anyone had any experience with other Laser etchers? (Including the uber expensive Epilog range) I was considered getting a cheap chinese option, but, with the pre-order sale going on at GlowForge (50% off for another 24 days), this was a no brainer for me as its about the same price as an unsupported, poor software compatible Chinese equivalent... Also, shameless plug, if you use this code: [removed] you can get $100 off the price (and so will I lol) First thing I'm gonna do is a "Vote 4 Turnip" acrylic window!
  12. Recently got the new Aorus X3-Prime (non plus version) to use as my everyday'r instead of my Macbook pro. Primarily as I travel for work so much. It's amazing, really happy to be back into PC gaming. Previously I'd take my PS4 with me when I travel, but damn, PC gaming is so far ahead, its pretty sad actually. Its great being able to use my work laptop for some hardcore gameage.
  13. Voting for the winner I suppose could be an American Idol style poll. That you can throw votes at throughout the comp. Or Luke could work something out... Where there's a will, there's a way! Maybe Linus would have to wear the wig, and go to the 7-11, to buy a pie, which gets thrown at him!
  14. Hey PuttyQ, I'm happy to answer EVERYTHING. Originally, I was going to get the X3 Plus for the .6" difference and the higher res. Due to delays to Australia with the X3 Plus, I opted for the non-plus... Which I shall call X3-prime... cause it sounds cool lol. Actually happy that the delay happened in the end. With the X3-prime, I run Final Fantasy XIV in native res, which looks great!. The X3-plus has to drive 50% more pixels or so, so I suspect performance would suffer beyond gameability, meaning you would need to half the res, which is just a little too low for me. A lot of people have complained about build quality, but these seem to ALL tie in with the original iteration of the X7, not the X3. IMHO, The X3's build quality is on par with the best. To give a bit of background, I'm an IT professional, and for the past 12 years, I've been an Apple fanboy. I love the build quality of the Macbook's. I also own an Asus G73-JH, which I've given to my nephew as he wants to get into Game Dev stuff. I'm REALLY happy with the build quality. Everything plugs in fine, the keyboard is up to spec, and the touchpad, although glass, and can get a little stiction, is still pretty awesome. To date, nothing compares to the Macbook's touchpad, but this runs circles around the Asus touchpads... I hate those... For heat, NO PROBLEMS at all. I consider my self a power user. "Normal Operation" including things like web browsing, and light media don't cause the fans to spin up to an audible point. It runs really quietly. When gaming, FFXIV for example @ 2560x1440 native res causes liftoff... as expected lol. This goes on and off throughout gameplay depending on what is rendered in scene. Doing things like crafting incur no real audible work... which is impressive. Scenes with lots of other players and action is another story. I also do some light 3d rendering and modeling in some advanced software. With basic models, it phases in and out of fanage. Once you start working on even slightly complex models, everything spins up... which in my books is fine. It's a 13" laptop, and it's running with the big boys. The fans at full blast are a little much. My wife is a heavy sleeper, so I can do some gaming in bed without disturbing her, but your average human would NOT appreciate the full blown fan noise. Gaming with headphones alleviates this. For the youtube vidz, did you see ones with the X3? I've had NO flicker issues, the keyboard doesn't flex beyond what I would care about... feels pretty solid, and the lid, yeah I guess it can flex a little. Sitting on a solid table, its not an issue. When using on lap, I guess it does shudder a little... Would I buy it again given the choice? Definitely! I narrowed my choice down to 3 machines: MSI GS60 Razer Blade (14") Aorus X3 Money for me was no issue. I travel a LOT for work, spending weeks in other cities (Like Brisbane, where there is NOTHING to do). What was important was a good compromise of portability and performance. The X3 fits under the seat in front of you on planes, and it means I no longer need to bring my PS4 in my checked luggage... The X3 performs WAY better than any console too (PC Master Race), After looking at the benchmarks for the MSI, I ruled it out. Plus, I HATE Australia tax... both the Blade and the GS60 are like $1000 more than buying in the states... If you check out Razers site, you can change your location and see how much we are getting ripped off.. The Aorus seems to be much more reasonable in that regard, the SSD performance is outstanding... I love it, and it was cheaper than the Blade, which has a little worse spec btw. Ping me if you have any other questions... at this point, I'm tempted to write up a whole User Review on it lol.
  15. Hey guys, Wouldn't it be cool if LTT hosted their own mod/build comp. All done remotely with LTT forum members entering. Members would create little 2 min videos showing where they were up to, or maybe even twitch it. And Linus and Slick could switch between feeds and showcase vids that are interesting... Maybe even just add it as a digest at the end of WAN show! Prize could be to get to decide what gets thrown at Linus at the end! Like pie...
