60Hz vs 120Hz for gaming

TheKrish360

Hi, I'm not sure if I should buy a 60Hz gaming monitor or one at 120Hz (refresh rate). I wanna know if there is truly a big difference between the two or if it's just a gimmick (and if there is a difference, in what types of games or circumstances).

Things to consider:

- I mainly play on consoles

- I do occasionally play on my PC at 1080p 60FPS

Thank you, all input is appreciated greatly :)

On consoles you won't even be able to use a 1080p 60Hz monitor effectively, I'd just stick with 60Hz unless your rig can push games up to 120FPS or that range.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

120hz if you can get 120fps on max settings in a game, and most important for competative games.

Don't get it for your setup, mostly playing console.

If you don't play your games above 60fps there is no point in buying a 120Hz monitor.

120hz will do nothing for you having an 120 hz monitor means that you can display 120 frames

With consoles, it's dependent on the game. For example, Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2 run at 1080p/60FPS.

So...you only play at 60Hz and you are asking about a 120Hz monitor. Obviously, get a 60Hz monitor with an IPS panel. Consoles with HDMI only output at 1080p/60Hz.

All the parts are here, just need to get customized cords to connect the motherboard to the front panel.

Thanks guys! I was just a bit confused about how the refresh rate worked but it's all cleared up now.
