Is 2666Mhz memory like what 1333Mhz was when DDR3 was introduced?

Prices are to be expected. so I guess that means 32GB+ packs are around $1000+ for the dominators.
Good thing I'm skipping the 5960X for the 6960X. DDR4 should be a little cheaper by then.

PCCG and other stores should be listing the X99 mobos and CPU's soon then. That NDA should be lifting soon surely

CORSAIR RIPPER: AMD 3970X - 3080TI & 2080TI - 64GB Ram - 2.5TB NVME SSD's - 35" G-Sync 120hz 1440P
MFB (Mining/Folding/Boinc): AMD 1600 - 3080 & 1080Ti - 16GB Ram - 240GB SSD
Dell OPTIPLEX:  Intel i5 6500 - 8GB Ram - 256GB SSD

Yeah, by the time I need to buy the parts for a system to replace my current Beast, the 32GB DDR4 kits from Corsair and the like oughta be out and dropped in price, but that'll be like 2 or 3 years from now - I'm more likely to do GPU/HDD upgrades between now and then rather than CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade/s.

Glad to see we're not getting shafted TOO badly for new tech like this, though. Those prices are what I'd expect for fresh-off-the-assembly line parts.

That's retarded...

Dude, it cost me $339 AUD + S&H for this 32GB set of Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz (price has since gone UP for some reason, probably due to scarcity) back in July 2013. $400 AUD + S&H for the cheapest 16GB kit of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 is about what would be expected here (though it could stand to be lower, but eh).

To be fair this is probably the AUS only pricing and that is always extremely high.

how much are comparable ddr3 kits over there? like a 1866 one, and a 2133 and 2400?

Presumably, yes.

i think the standard will be 2133 for DDR4, since the new intel CPUs are rated for that, will probably rise to 3000 by cannonlake, and stay there, just as it has with DDR3 1600

Keeping with 16GB Corsair kits (dual-stick & quad-stick kits) from PCCaseGear?

Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M4A2133C9 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 - $449 AUD

Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M2A2400C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 - $359 AUD

Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M2A2133C9 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 - $299 AUD

Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 - $279 AUD

Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M2A1600C9 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 - $275 AUD

Corsair Vengeance CML16GX3M4X1600C8 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 - $259 AUD

Corsair Vengeance Black CMZ16GX3M4X1866C9 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 - $229 AUD (same for the Red version)

That's just limiting to 16GB kits and going from "Most Expensive" to "Least Expensive" on PCCaseGear's list of Corsair RAM selections. The kits that are 4x4GB are more expensive than their 2x8GB kit brethren usually

not that bad of an increase then... 25% is ok for a comparable kit

On the other hand, that 4x4GB @ 2666MHz kit of DDR4 is $10 more than a Corsair Dominator Platinum CMD32GX3M4A1600C9 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 at $549 AUD (the 2133MHz sibling of that kit is $615 AUD though).

I personally noted that as I'm more a fan of kits with 8GB sticks instead of 4GB sticks, having learnt the hard way it's not always a good idea to max out your RAM slots with 4GB-stick kits if you find you need more memory for your usage.

i am a fan of the big densities too, just because upgradeability... :)

yeah but i dont think comparing frequencies with ddr4 is just mhz to mhz, since the processors are rated much higher, so 2666 isnt that hard to reach anymore, its basically the 1866 if DDR4 xD
