New Gaming/Video Editing Build

Guest Philosophy
Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

You don't have to. All i'm saying is that it's so pointless that even I who loves to do pointless stuff like overkilling on things thinks that this is just a down right stupid idea. And I don't promote stupid things. Have a nice day.

AHAHAHAH

This coming from the same guy who just got boo'd off of this New Build Thread because he was promoting stupid ideas that are way above what the guy wanted.  So you crawl to this thread to feel better about yourself?

SLI 780 is not a bad idea but the loop is a bad one since watercooling options in the 330R are very bad afaik.

I also have multiple PC's but that's because they make sense. For what exact reason can't you use your pc? Another location or what?

One big room, I just want one. I do not need to justify my build to you, I just want some opinions on what I could buy for a similar price that is better.

That PSU is a bit overkill. Another PC just cause you want it O.o..... Its getting #Heated in Here.

Also if you are getting other crap, why not get the i7 from there too, its only like $249.99

I've built several systems just because it was a system I didn't have and wanted. Men like us take pride in our system, right?

Anyways, here's one that's very similar to one of my builds. I know most people will recommend NVIDIA, but I've found AMD cards to be overall a tad faster when it comes to video editing. Yeah, the GTX 770 beats the R9 280x in a lot of games, but the 280x's extra memory and larger memory interface really do help when it comes to rendering (at least 3D rendering, the type of editing I do). I've also found higher speed memory more practical in editing rigs. I been able to time out tangible improvements when testing out 16GBs of 1600MHz memory against 16GBs of 1866MHz memory. Oh... and I'm a huge fan of Corsair and Gigabyte, so I'm always inclined to buy and recommend their products.

Part List: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/oLuffy/saved/4tud
Price breakdown/merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/oLuffy/saved/4tud/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k ($299.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($49.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H ATX ($158.98 @ OutletPC)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866MHz ($159.99 @ Amazon)
SSD: A-Data XPG SX900 256GB ($139.14 @  NCIX US)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200 RPM ($84.63 @ OutletPC)
Video card: Sapphire R9 280X 3GB Dual-X ($299.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair SPEC-03 Red ATX Mid-Tower ($59.99 @ Newegg)
PSU: Corsair RM750W 80+ Gold Fully-Modular ATX ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST ($16.99 @ Newegg)
OS: Windows 8.1 OEM 64 bit ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
   Total: $1,479.67

The only thing different in the build I have that's similar to this is the SSD. My SSD is the Corsair Neutron Series 128GB.

Intel Core i7-4930k @ 4.4GHz; ASUS Sabertooth X79; Corsair Vengeance 64GB (8x8) 1866MHz CL9; ASUS R9 290X 4GB; ADATA SX900 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate Barracuda 2x2TB RAID 1, Western Digital 3TB My Cloud; Corsair RM1000 80+ Gold; Corsair Graphite Series 760T 760T; BenQ XL2420T 120hz

Another thing to consider, and it ties into what @AnnroTheArgonian said:  The R9 290 is a really appealing option right now because it comes with 3 free games(you get to pick out 3 from a decent sized selection) when you buy it through Newegg.com, as well as being less expensive than the GTX 780. I have always personally thought that AMD excels at work related tasks: video editing, rendering, etc..  and Nvidia's strengths are for gaming.  Both are interchangeable and can do either gaming or work tasks very comparably, those are just the strengths of both companies that I perceive.  If I am wrong, please correct me.  Check out some benchmarks, not product specifications, so you can get a better idea of the R9 vs. GTX780 for in-game performance on the desired resolution you plan to game at.
