Experts of linus, please help me! I am relatively new to overclocking, but I have read every post on general and Haswell-specific overclocking over the last 4 months that I could find. The instructions seem pretty straight forward in that I need to basically increase the multiplier while finding a suitable voltage to keep it stable. I wasn't able to find any posts with similar issues, so I decided to make this post to request help. However, despite my best efforts, I have been unsuccessful in achieving my modest overclocking goal. The problem I am experiencing is that when I adjust even one parameter, (multipier, voltage, xmp, you name it) when I boot into windows, the black screen flashes right before the login page, and is then very slow and glitchy, sometimes resulting in my computer completely freezing up. This occurs even when increasing my multiplier from the default 36 to 38 with a generous vcore voltage of 1.25v. So in my personal attempts to solve this problem, I have run memtest on all 4 of my memory sticks and also all together, but they seem to be fine. I have also followed Intel God's quick and dirty guide step by step after resetting my CMOS, which actually worked and I was able to run AIDA64 stable overnight, but when I restarted my computer, the problem returned. I have since tried resetting the CMOS again, but I am unable to overclock it just as before. I was able to run CPU-Z while in the very glitchy state while overclocked and witnessed the blck bouncing all around from single digits up to around 150. Not sure why, but this occurs at both auto and manual bclk settings in bios. Everything works fine at the optimized default settings, but anything that I change makes everything very stuttery, glitchy, and slow. Please ask me questions and help me solve this problem. I really want to get more out of my 4670k than the stock settings. Perhaps it's just a program running from startup that's causing some sort of incompatibility.

gfx driver would be my first guess

if your cpu and ram was that unstable at boot no way you would get 3.5 hours of stress testing.

So I'm gonna call it good at 6 hours of stress testing. And I did a clean install of the gfx driver and I no longer have the jumpiness. Thank you so much! I think it should be fine now. I'll continue to tweak my OC by your guide. You've been very helpful.

Actually, the jumpiness came back so I decided to disable the power saving features through the BIOS because they seem to have been causing the bus speed to go haywire and it made everything jumpy. The crazy bus speed fluctuations seem to have gone away.. Again.
