Silent is Silent

TheToxicgamer97
Go to solution Solved by loccilucas,

yep, noctua fans are silent and have rubber mounts, same with noiseblocker PL-2's and apparently Gentle Typhoons are completely silent aswell although I don't have any fist hand experience of them. Basically make sure every fan in the system is a noctua, Gente Typhoon or noiseblocker PL-2 and you'll have a very very quiet system.

@TheToxicgamer97 Please don't double post but some times it's the forum so don't click the post button more than once as sometimes it takes a few seconds to post, use this thread http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/140577-silent-is-silent/ as this one will be deleted.

I did this on mobile and the second post was actually an edit to the original.

GT's are THE quietest fan right now. If there was something better, more people would know about it.

But, then again, not many people know about GT's

What are GT's ?

I was going to buy Corsair HF120 Silent Edition Fans, for aesthetic purposes. How do these compare in terms of performance and silence without just saying they're not as good :P

Rubber mounts for fans are rubber mounts, the differences between are very minor, just make sure they are made of very soft pliable rubber. Try places like FrozenCPU or ebay.

These ones aren't bad:

Thanks! Those seem like they will do the trick! :D

Noctuas are "quiet" but they're nowhere near silent, I don't know why everyone thinks they are.  I've had 8 pairs of noctuas and they all were audible at their minimum speed at 5v ~600 RPM.   ( tried 2 different fan controllers with 0-12 volts, and also with PWM control from my motherboard )

They make a very low "humming" noise, and it's extremely annoying if you're sensitive to those types of noise.

90% of this stuff doesn't apply whilst air cooling except at idle/ light loads where fans don't have to go above 40-60% and the PSU fan stays off.

Well in my pc I have 2 AF-120's, 3 NB PL-2's and a NH-U14s and when I unplug the AF-120's you wouldn't even know it's switched on from about 40cm away. So no they arnt silent but my noctua fan defiantly doesn't have a buzzing sound.

I'm guessing you mean AF-120 silent editions? Well I have 2 in my case, as well as a noctua and NB PL-2's, and they are the loudest fans in my system, like at full speed it's pretty ridiculous, so no in you want the quietest system possible dont bother with them. Also if you want aesthetics I can only reccomended noiseblocker blacksilent PL-2's (I know if sounds like I'm a noiseblocker fanboy), they are just as quiet if not quieter than my noctua, but look amazing, as noctua's and GT's are ugly to most people. (I quite like the noctua colours)

Nowhere did I say they have a buzzing sound, I said they have a low pitched humming noise.

Were they in push pull config? I just tried to listen to the motor putting the fan just right on my ears, I did hear some noise can't describe it but it wasnt really loud. I'm swapping my nf-f12's out for some black AP121, they look so awesome, they push a piece of paper much further away than a noctua, the sound quality is really smooth and they don't have so much turbulence on rads like the noctua's >.<

The NF-F12 isn't even better than the P12 honestly.

Sorry but Corsair fans are like golf 3's; tinglebingletangalanga sounds. Tons of motor noise >.>

I tried them in push / pull and as just intakes in the front of my case they always had that quiet hum noise that drove me nuts :/

You'd think there would be better things to do rather than getting angry on a tech forum and calling us all elitist assholes about computer fans.

Who is being an elitist asshole here ?  And even if they were, there's no reason to blatantly say it outloud on the forum.  That's why there's a report button on the forum.

I don't call you an elitist but it is annoying when people are like "GET GT'S, EVERYTHING ELSE IS CRAP"
