My first build.

DNick89

Well I'm finally done with my first build. Wish I could say it went off without a hitch, but I can't. First I had to wait to get my case on backorder, even though I preordered it. It was torture looking at all my components for my computer knowing I'm only missing the case to put it in. Once i finally get the case, I excitedly rush to go build it. This was my first build, but I've watched so many build guides from Linus, that I was sure I could do it with out a problem. Silly me decided to not do a test build, and throw it all in the case. The moment of truth came.

I press the power button AND.......nothing. Nothing happens at all. But it's my first build, so i figured I forgot something. I went back and double checked all the connections, making sure they were in tight, and in the right place. It all seems good. So I give up and pull everything from the case, to build it on motherboard box. Nothing. Now I'm at lost. I try pulling the RAM, putting them in different slots, one ram at a time. That doesn't help. So I go to do some reading to figure out what to do next.

I come across on how to test the PSU. I try and jump it to no avail. So I finally THINK it is the PSU. I end up pulling the 24/8 pin cables off the old crappy computer that I have been using. Plug it up to my new mother board, and suddenly the MB lights up. I FIGURED IT OUT!!! I was super happy that I figured it out on my own, but super depressed knowing it's going to be another few weeks till my new computer will be up and running. I went through the RMA process with Newegg, and a couple weeks later, I got the replacement. Everything went smoothly from there.

Well here are some pics and specs.

I'm actually borrowing the monitor from a friend. He had two just laying around. He switched to a laptop and no use for them. I'll probably buy this one off of him. I had been using a 22in Samsung TV. Looked awful.

Also cable management is SO SO SO easy on this case. If you try even just a little bit, it's going to look good.

II got this from a friend for free. He switched to a laptop and this was just collecting dust. But what I know it has these.

CPU: Core 2 duo 4600

RAM: 2gb 500mhz ddr2 (don't know the brand)

MB: MSI 7267

PSU: I have no idea

GPU: ATI 4870.

The CPU really holds the computer back. As long as the game wasn't CPU intensive the GPU did fine. I was able to play Cyrsis 2 on Low/Medium settings at 1080p around 45fps.

What kind of paint would you use? Wouldn't that hurt thermal performance?

You could get by just painting the top and not the fins, painting the fins would give you higher temps. If you paint the top and cover the sides with fans it will be even more appealing.

I was originally planning on just replacing it with an AIO when I got the money. But i might do that in the mean time.

Yeah, that CPU is terrible. A Q6600 or E8400 would be great in that system.

I thought about throwing in a better CPU, however the FSB on the motherboard is awfully slow. So it really limits me in what I can put in it. And if I get a new mother board as well, I might as well change socket.
