Info

Hey all! So this is to be my most custom PC yet with the spec's listed below. The parts within aren't new, I can't afford a whole new system and i'm quite content with my current specs. So to clarify, the internals are being moved to this new build (I did however build my previous over the past 2 years).

So my new build will be White, Blue & Black (Apart from the minor Yellow on my GPU). I have bought some sleeved extensions for my PSU and SATA cables that are on show, so there will only be blue braided cables showing, apart from the USB and Case I/O wires. Therefore keeping it clean and smart visually, with the bonus cable storage under the PSU cover in the H440. The aim of this build is make a visually pleasing PC for my desk, not to say my current isn't, but it's time to step up.

The Specs

NZXT H440 White.

AMD FX-8350.

Cooler Master 212.

MSI GTX 770 2GB Lightning Edition.

16GB Kingston HyperX.

120GB Samsung 830 SSD (Primary Drive)

120GB Corsair Force GS SSD

2TB Seagate Barracuda

1TB WD Green

500GB WD Black

Corsair TX 650

Full Component Set: http://imgur.com/a/DfvvP

Extras / Customs

So my Samsung SSD is already black, fitting my scheme, however my Corsair SSD is bright red... Therefore I plan on spraying it matt black to worth with my colour scheme.

All the visible wires will be replaced with BitFenix Alchemy Blues, keeping all wiring smart and tidy.

http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/premium-modding/alchemy-cables#overview

And we cant go without lights! So I have a set of NZXT Braided Blue LED's, with the brightness changer fitted at the back as a PCI.

Timescale

So my H440 has been on order since late January, but over here in the UK, we wont be getting it until roughly 21st March. So I should be receiving mine on my birthday, 22nd March (Treat myself ;) ). I plan to spray up my SSD this weekend and see how it looks.

Thanks for reading, I'm super excited for this build, and hope it looks awesome!

Time to Paint!

So I wen't down the to the hardware store this afternoon, bought some Matt paint, masking tape and grade 1 sanding paper. Now I wouldn't recommend doing this as i'm sure it'll void the warranty and to be fair, i'm kind of worried my self, but hey ho. A full resolution gallery is available here for your viewing: http://imgur.com/a/Fwpou.

So I taped up the connectors on the edge and the black plate on the back of the SSD, but rounding and cutting the edges to cover the black plate only and not the red edges, making sure I cover all parts of it. You can see I tucked the tape in the gap with a small flat head.

7whog.jpg

7whrQ.jpg

I next carefully pealed the front sticker off as I want to put this back on after, luckily one of the corners pealed really easily, meaning I didn't mess up any of the corners. I then cleaned her up to remove any remaining dust and sticky bit from the sticker ready to spray.

7whDo.jpg

7whFj.jpg

And finally, placed her on top of a can lid, to keep it raised, as well boxed to stop the spray going everywhere. I also added an old USB stick to the job because it was tatty and why not!

7whLU.jpg

So put the first layer on, however I think I may of put a little to much on, and it was windy so there is some obvious dust spots on it, I think I will wait for it to dry, remove them and re-spray, but comment with any better suggestions. Thanks for reading and I'll keep you posted with how it's going!

Micro update, first layers done! As said above, I had a few dust spots, so i've worked them off and just thrown a fresh layer on. You can see there is also a red tint on the edges, just needs a little more paint on it!

I bought the 830, which is brushed black over a year and a bit ago. The Corsair SSD, my Dad gave to me a month back when I visited home, it was sat in his draw haha.

Time to Paint! Update

So after that minor fix yesterday, the whole rough texture to the original SSD chassis isn't cooperating, and makes it look like a real bad paint job, so today I've sanded it right down to remove the knobbly texture coat and sprayed a first layer, fingers crossed this will look better!

7xF6b.jpg

However this has given me an idea for a sweet future build, with a rough, trashy style, just something about how the SSD looks when sanded down like that which seams pretty damn sweet!

Time to Pain! Complete!

So I've finished the SSD ready for the build. It's not perfect and ideally it would look a whole lot better, but it'll be fine once it's in the case under the blue lighting. (Pictures linked, on my Surface because the PC's in bits... and the forums tend to be a bit iffy on it).

http://i.imgur.com/4T0NLDI.jpg

In other news, the case was dispatched and is due to arrive tomorrow! So I'll have a full picture set up.

nice parts but i have a quick question why did you go with the lightning edition gpu and since the theme is mostly blue are you going to paint it or just leave it because you can barely see the yellow on the card

Ye, well like I say not totally new parts and bought the GPU before even thinking about a new case, and the lightening edition was on a special at the time, so was cheaper than their normal one. I won't be painting, can hardly see it.

The Build! (Full gallery here)

So the case finally arrived Saturday and I managed to finish the job! (Late updating because it was also my 18th sat, so I was out and then yesterday I was really hung over ;) ) It's a wonderful case and looks spectacular. Really happy with how it went!

Opening her up

7I8br.jpg

So first up, I threw in the Mobo and had a look at the HDD mounts. Despite some criticism I've read online about the mounts, I personally really like how they have done them, there kept tidy and away, as shown below. The way they mount is also pretty simple, but happily does the job, also below.

7I8Wn.jpg

7I91c.jpg

7I94c.jpg

Next up was the SSD's, they mounted again, rather simply and looked good sat next to each other, in a clear spot, shown off.

7I9aL.jpg

Now, time to throw in the PSU. I liked how this slid in, making it easy, but effective, with the back plate holding it in.

7I9ke.jpg

Then I chucked in the BitFenix braided cables and got to the cable management.... This was a nightmare with the BitFenix extensions, but thank you NZXT for that PSU cover! Still not the best, but hey, it's hidden behind closed doors and the other side looks nice!

7I9xj.jpg

And shes done! You can view the full gallery via the link above (Next to 'The Build') along with my full build review and comments at the end of the original post! Hoped you enjoyed this build log, and I have to say... SHES DAMN SEXY!
