I know :(   It was stable 5 at 1.54 for like.. 30 hours of benchmarking+ prime95, but now it needs like 1.565, chip degradation OP. lolol.    I don't wanna push it anymore that high seeing how fast it degraded, makes me nervous even with intel's tuning plan.  My plan was to buy the 3970x off the forums, sell my 3930k+ tuning plan on ebay / the forums for like 350-400$ and hope for the best.

Or I can just wait like 2 years for 5770k/6770k and just upgrade then.   I honestly don't really use my CPU to it's potential much.  The most intensive thing I do everyday is play bf4 @ 1440p lol.

My original plan when I built it was to learn to use sony vegas/ after effects/ premiere etc. But I had no idea where to even start to learn, so I lost interest :/

What kind of FPS are you getting on bf4 @ 1440p?

I was thinking about getting that 24 inch 4k panel from dell. But kinda concerned about that 3GB frame buffer :/

Anywhere from 80 to 160, depending on the map+ whats going on  (80 being the absolute lowest, I probably average.. 120-130)  when my new PSU shows up, numbers should change.  My 12v rail on my hx1050 has terrible ripple, gaming or mining drops my 12v rail from 11.9v to 11.3v, I noticed while mining I drop from 750khash per card, to like 675 because of the ripple I think. I'm sure it effects my games too.

I would avoid that 24 inch 4k monitor, I have a buddy that has the 31 inch asus one, he said it's amazing for games, but text is ridiculously hard to read and gives him a headache after awhile.  I'd imagine 24 inch would be even worse, things would be absolutely tiny.  He tried using that thing that makes text bigger (I can't remember the name) but said it was extremely glitchy.

I was actually contemplating that 4k monitor too, I'm hoping they release some later this year that are affordable. I really want one.

I filled out all the options for an s8 that I'd want, 475$ :(  then again, it is all aluminum, no plastic xD

Update #5

Here are some photos from Mundi from @Icemodz on the patterns for the sleeving don't they look lovely :)

The color is kind of off due to the lighting. The final picture is more of a accurate colour match :) Will take more pictures once I get the cables in my hands haha

Enjoy!

Hey everyone!

First update for this build. Got a few components so I thought I would get straight to work. There are more components on the way today, so I will have another post soon. There may be a few teasers ;)

Enjoy!

Just some pictures of the board. The CPU Block is already installed onto the board, I forgot to take pictures of the install.

Hmm.. It can fit 2 360mm monstas in the top right? With that dual 360 rad top?    I wonder how 2 monsta 360's would compare to my 2 480 60mm's

You should be able to fit a 480 I believe in their Merlin series of cases but I haven't been on their website in a while. They have quick response times to any questions (usually within a day) so you certainly ask them there.

There's no way, a 480 rad is like 20 inches long, the case is only 19 inches deep

That's odd because some of their pedestals can even fit a phase changer but they've gotten more portable so that's probably not a fair comparison. But 480 probably is overkill unless you're looking at maxing out to 5GHZ in which case you really should go the liquid nitrogen route on 6 core chips like you have.

As per EK instructions and everyone's general knowledge, GPUs do need that much thermal goop. This is because when you apply a block to a GPU the compound doesn't spread thus more is needed. You can even watch Linus's video on installing a waterblock on a GPU he applies more than he would on a CPU and spreads it. Something you wouldn't find when applying to a CPU. I've been installing GPU waterblocks for years now, and haven't had a single card die. I think I would know what I'm doing at this point.. ;)

No it is wayyyy too much, it only needs to be a micro thin layer between gpu and block. You want direct contact between the two with a thin layer of thermal compound to only fill in the micro small gaps which are tiny.

You can fit a 480 into the Merlin SM8, in the roof or the floor. Most of the Magnum series except 480s & 560s as well.

I run 4.8 24/7 and once I get the 3970x from the store I should be running 24/7 5 ghz depending on how many volts it needs.  *crosses fingers*  Hopefully I get enough from tax returns to get that+ my second pb278q and my new desk from ikea

Maybe later on down the road if I upgrade to like.. 5770k or 6770k in a couple years I may use caselabs then, idk if I have the money to drop 500-600$ on a case @WildTurtle

Seconded. With all accessories, shipping and local taxes I paid about 900 USD

for mine I think (it's been a while ;)), and no regrets whatsoever.

I just dunno if I'll have enough to spare, I have to buy a new desk, a second pb278q, and then I've gotta spend ~50 or so bucks on red coolant.  Then I was hoping I could get hifiman he-500's and an o2 dac amp, but that's all dependent on how much I get from tax returns.   If I have enough leftover I was gonna get the 3970x, then sell my 3930k. I could use the money from that to buy the case probably, but idk.

I don't really have any complaints about my 900D, it's just a tiny bit flimsy. but it's not like im planning on moving it 24/7 so I'm not that concerned

If you're happy, you're happy, not a bad thing IMO. :D

In the end, spending this much on a case is probably not a trivial decision for

most people (it wasn't for me either), and whether or not it's worth it to you

is in the end a personal decision. I have no regrets, but if somebody else can't

personally justify spending so much of their own money on it I can see that too,

don't really see a problem with that.

snip

I like the way it looks, and it was actually quite easy to do my loop in it, even for a first timer like myself. It didn't turn out bad, my loop looks great. But It just doesn't match my mobo at all, hence why I'm changing to red/grey/black theme. It only took a few hours to make sure everything was all tidy and plan out lengths for tubing, then assemble it all.  The biggest hassle I had with it was my dumb-butt cousin screwing in a screw into my top 480, good-game 110$ :(. But I just ordered a new one that week and put it in.

I think in the future or maybe in a couple months if I have extra $, maybe when it's time to clean my loop out and refill it I may get a caselabs.  After looking at tons of pics+ seeing all the features you can choose /customize, I think it's more than worth it.  I hope to have extra money sometime soon to upgrade :D.

You're looking way over 1k. Unless there is an absolute need to upgrade I don't see why your current 900D setup wouldn't suffice.

the 3970x in the store is 550, then I can turn around and sell my 3930k with it's tuning plan paperwork for ~400 so I'd only lose 150$ or so

Yes my current setup is fine, but I'd really like a chip that can do 5 ghz 24/7 without severe degradation like mine. :( :( ( this isn't a big deal, but having an extreme edition would be sweet xD, especially for that cheap of a price)

Have you thought about Haswell-E? I don't know if you would ever need that kind of performance and it's launch price would probably be 1k but hopefully by that time they would have worked out the whole thermal compound issue so you could reach the mighty "5"
