Use: Mostly Skype, Music (Mainly rock), and gaming.

I'd like them to completely encase my ear.. More comfortable in my opinion.

Standard 3.5mm jack

I'd like a microphone, but if they are worth it and don't have a microphone, I could grab a Blue Snowball or something

My budget is $250 and under, but if they are really worth it, I can go above that..

Sadly, my Sennheiser PC323d's just broke, and I'm just using some Klipsch Image X10's as my audio, but I don't have a mic. I could just by a Blue Snowball or something, but I prefer headsets for PC and earbuds for mobile.

Thanks!

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, 80 ohms

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MNAAI/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8

Plus your favorite desktop Mic. Should fix your headphone breaking problem.

from what little I had them on I liked the dt770s.

I'd almost say go with an open set, but if you're using a desktop mic it may not be the best option.

Will work for electronic components and parts

It doesn't really matter if anyone can hear my music.

I use it mostly for gaming and skype. If open is better, then by all means.

As long as they sound awesome and go around the ear, it doesn't matter to me..

*Note: Don't say anything crappy like Beats.. I said I want good headphones ;)

Sorry for sounding demanding, but I'm not good with audio, so any help is appreciated.

Oh, I was trying to keep it in your price range.

Get the 880s if you like a flat signature, or the 990s if you like the "fun" or "v-shaped" signature, with a lot of treble and bass.

The Ohm version of the Beyers is a design decision on the company's part. The 80 Ohm versions are more for normal music listening, and the higher Ohm versions are more compatible with professional mixing equipment like DJs and audio editors use. The 80 and 250 Ohm versions should both be compatible and be loud enough for you though without any special amplification.

I'm really liking the look of the 990's.

If it would make a difference, I'll probably install my Soundblaster Xi-fi Titanium. Would that change anything?

I've heard people say the 250 or higher ohm versions of the beyers are worth it over the 80 ohm ones... obvious drawback the 250 ohm ones are a bit difficult to drive.

no one going to recommend AKG?

I've had an issue with the K701/2 headband. It breaks if your not gentle with it or rip it off your head with one hand. If this guy's Sennheiser headset broke, he's probably a bit rough with headphones in general. That's my guess.

What's the difference between the Ohms?

Sorry, I'm good in computer parts.. Not audio.

Thanks! Those look really comfortable.

Ohms is the impedance of the headphones. The more ohms they have, the more is the need to get a decent sound card (with headphone amp like an Asus Xonar DGX) or the sound will be too low for you to enjoy your content. Usually, high end headphones have a higher impedence (I don't know why, if someone could explain it it would be great)

Well, I'm generally pretty gentle with all my stuff, but my friend comes over a lot and he's generally pretty wild.

I'm pretty sure he's the one that broke it, but I'm not gonna get angry because I was honestly looking to replace them soon anyway.. This is just more of a reason to ;)

No, I wasn't aware, but it doesn't really matter to me.

I bought it because I wanted to see how much of a difference it makes. After messing around with it, I'll go with a much higher end one. Probably Asus.

Also, what's the difference between the pro and non pro versions? It puzzles me that the Pro is a lot less expensive.

The pro version is a little less bassy to make them more neutral, making them more suitable for mastering applications. Get the non-pro model if you want more bass. I would be surprised if the Titanium HD could drive the 250ohm's, I would suggest keeping your current soundcard and investing in a headphone amp like the Schiit Magni. That way you only have to put up $100, not $160 or so into an Asus card, then put the remainder into to non-pro DT990's.

Is the DT-990 250 ohm really worth it? How much of an upgrade would it be over my old PC323d's?
Absolutely night and day. You will throw your PC323D's out of your window in disgust after listening to the DT990's.

i like coiled. especially for goin outdoors. i use my coiled M50 on my computer as well. not as much as an advantage over a straight cord.

the Titanium HD will drive the DT990 decently.

if op is concerned more about bass, the DT770 would be great. the DT990 is still bassy considering that the DT990 are open headphones.

It's got enough Ohms to be compatible with your X-Fi. Shouldn't change anything.

i use the HD598 and i havent heard complaints about any echoing. i dont think noise leakage would be a problem with mics and open headphones

I have a pair of 990pros I take to work with me. It goes on a plane at least twice a week. Still works 1 year later. I'd say the durability alone would be worth it over what you had before.

If anything ever actually broke, Beyer sells replacement parts for them anyways.
