EVGA Powerlink Compatibility on Another Brand Graphics Cards

Hi everyone..

 

I have a question about EVGA Powerlink compatibility on another 3dr party VGA cards outside EVGA itself, can it be used on non-EVGA cards?

 

I see this thing may give me some convenience on my system so I want to confirm it before I buy 2 units for my systems which is one of them use an MSI GTX 1060 6Gb Gaming X.

yeah it works, it's just a cable management tool really.

Where'd you get that information? Do you have one works on non-EVGA cards? No offense but just to be 100% confirmed that it can..

 

Yes, I like my system to be nicely clean and tidy.

Yeah, I tried that with an MSI GTX 980.

Eight-pin plugs are upside down.

It's not even Geforce though, it's my friend's Sapphire R9 Fury Tri-X. Got custom cooler on it, that's why the large heatsink didnt get in the way

In pic 1 you can see the 8pins that plug into the GPU.

I have reversed them so they would fit my 980.

In pic 2 you see the PSU connection side.

They were not easily reversible so I switched traces inside on PCB.

In pic 3 you can see the back of the 8pin plug that goes to GPU and there is only a Pos and Neg bar.

But it didn't post right away when I tried it, so, not being an electrician, I stopped and never went back.

Remember, pic 1 shows the 8pin connectors reversed, after modding.

So you chopped the rail hole to allow you to put them on upside down?

 

Well I think all MSI cards has their power slots are on different orientation compared to EVGA. My GTX 1060 GX 6Gb also has the same orientation like yours. Chopping the rail hole feels wrong to me.

I wish the other brand has a powerlink like this for their own cards.

Not that I know of.

Would just need to match on the power plugs. Which reference go one way and custom go the other way.
