PC randomly shutting down.

So, my secondary rig (Athlon) is randomly shutting itself off without warning. The screens go black and all the fans will blast at 100% speed until I manually reset it. It is powered by a very cheap (I know, I know) 600W PSU.

 

I don't think the PSU could be the problem though, as it worked fine a few months ago powering an i5 OC'd to 4.4GHz with a 7850.

If it's frequent enough, try underclocking it for a while, possibly test ram sticks if you can.
 
 
that sounds like a general hardware failure.
 

Based on this and the other thread, your CPU might be baD


do more stuff before you jump to that, a bad CPU is extremely rare.

that sounds like a general hardware failure. 

RAM is known working, just underclocked to 3GHz 3.5 Boost.

Idle. There is another issue, one where my PSU (admittedly crap) isn't delivering the proper voltages.

I have an i5-3470 up to 3.6Hz and at idle I get top 40-45. Of course you have a different CPU but for idle they seem little bit wrong for me. But still not enough to be causing shutdowns.

If your RAM isn't a problem then I would guess the PSU.

I had a crappy PSU some time ago and my PC was doing the same thing as yours but only when playing demanding games. I would say that your PSU is the problem but is strange that the fans are going 100% before the shutdown.

I would suggest cleaning your CPU cooler if you can for a start just to be sure.
