How good is FreeSync?

I'm about to purchase an RX 580, which has FreeSync compatibility, and I already have a 75Hz FreeSync monitor. Just how good is it? I've know that it eliminates screen tearing, so does that mean that if I get 30 fps, it would be as if I was getting 75 fps? I'm not quite sure how it works.

Compared to nothing it is great. Compared to Gsync it is OK.

no its not like getting 75 FPS at 30fps, it wont make frames smoother if you drop it will just help with any screen tearing or issues like that.

Screen tearing simply makes sure the monitor displays all rendered frames entirely rather than cutting them in the middle by lowering refresh rate to match fps. In other words, it will make 30fps on 75Hz monitor more bearable, but definitely not as good as higher fps.

No.

 

FreeSync does a better job of syncing your framerate to your refresh rate, which eliminates screen tearing. If your system is dropping frames, then no frame sync in the world can help you, and you need to figure out what's going on with your system.

? FreeSync is like G-Sync, it's an adaptive sync. It changes the refresh rate of your screen to match what the GPU is outputting, thus eliminating/reducing screen tearing. It only works if your system is dropping frames, if you have a 144Hz monitor and never drop below 144fps, FreeSync will never kick in in the first place.

It's more accurate to say that it only works within a set frame-rate range.

If you drop below it's lower value, then it ceases to function.

Yep, IIRC the range on most is 35-whatever the top end is, but if you're dropping below 35-40 fps then you're running too high of a resolution or settings.
