Looking for a tablet

I recently started looking for a budget tablet.

First I looked at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 (2018) which costs 235€ (on sale). The reviews of this tablets aren't that good, many say that the performance is too low for the MSRP. But the MSRP is over 300€.

Then there is its predecessor the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) which costs 140€. The advantages of the 10.5 are the better speakers, a bit more performance and the support. While both run Android Oreo the newer one will get updates while the older one probably wont. (Of course there are other small improvements like USB C and facial recognition.)

But there are other tablet manufacturers as well. The Huawei MediaPad T5 10 costs about 210€. 

 

Is the Tab 10.5 even worth the big price premium over the 10.1 or should I just skip Samsungs Tablet lineup and get something else?

How about an normal iPad 2018? It's around 270-300 euros right now if I'm not mistaken? And it has got much better performance than almost any tablets on the market (not counting the iPad Pros of course), and it will surely get iOS updates for the next few years.

look on the used market, you might be able to pick up an used Surface Pro 3 or if you are very lucky an Surface Pro 4.

 

in general, just look for a year or three or so old flagship devices. it will probably be the best experience you can get.

THe cheapest 2018 IPad here costs 285€. But it is only a 32GB model und unlike the Samsung tablets the storage can't be expanded by a micro SD. And I prefer the aspect ratio of the Galaxy.
I would prefer an Android Tablet but the update support for iOS devices is very good.

I don't really want to buy used. THe Galaxy Tab S2 would be an option as well. It is currently on sale for 10€ but it only runs Android 7. I don't have a problem with Android 7 or 8 but I want to keep my device for some years and I really don't want to use Android N in 2021.
