New gaming cpu

Hello,

I am looking for a gaming CPU to run with a water-cooled RTX 2080 Ti including a new motherboard of course. I have been looking at the Ryzen 2 2700X and the Intel Core i7 8700k as well as the 9700k. For the 9700K Intel removed HT, is this a big deal?

Motherboard-wise I want to stick with Asus and go with something like a ROG Strix or a ROG Maximus (Crosshair). Which one would you recommand? The Maximus Hero has a price difference of 70€ for the AMD and a bit more than 100€ for the Intel one compared to the Strix. Is it worth the extra money?

Greetings

I'd go for the 8700K.

If you are gonna go intel, I would definitely get the 8700k. As for the motherboard, the strix is fine, the maxiumus is more of a enthusiast type board

8700k is best cause there is no need to go to the 9900k or 9700k its good or you can also go with the 7800x with a x299 mobo

Yes, obviously the maximus can handle more but for a 9700k or an 8700k, the strix is fine. The maximus is more for the 9900k or people who like to do crazy overclocks

Ok. The i7 8700k has 16 PCIe lanes. If I go with a WiFi board I will loose 4 lanes due to the WiFi model (which also blocks one m2 slot) and 4 for a m2 SSD? So I only got 8 left for GPU?

That's not really how it works. The mobos have multiple pcie express slots, so whatever takes up each slot, takes up the bandwidth of that slot. So, most motherboards will have 1 slot with a bandwidth of 16, 2 with 8 maybe, and a few other smaller ones. So, the gpu usually goes in the one with 16, then your wifi card would go in one of the smaller slots. The cpu is irrelevant in that
