its socket

PGA988

your not going to find an i3/i5/i7 on that socket, its very old and is not designed for the higher speed CPUs

you need a new motherboard, or essentialy just a new laptop

it is

FCBGA1023, PPGA988

it seems from what i know, that its the same socket size, but its a diffrent generatrion. this means it may not be fully suppoprted on such an old laptop. you would have to do research on your laptop model to find out, but i highly doubt its supported due to such an old laptop

your main option is really to get a new laptop

Laptop cpu are hit or miss, if you're lucky, the same laptop model as yours may have different / higher models.

But sometimes this can be difficult to add random cpu, as the BIOS are very restrictive.

Second one, if you have a say 20 watt TDP laptop cpu, then you might wanna get the same TDP, as your laptop power / cooling system are tuned to that kind of wattage.

I've succesfully swapped a Sony Vaio Core Duo (1st gen) with Core 2 Duo (2nd gen) that supports 64bit and a way cooler temps.

Yep, I thought I heard of that processor somewhere. I had with me a Hasee laptop, it had the same processor.

As for upgrading CPU, I don't think it's worth it, IMO. Do you really need to upgrade it? For gaming or some other stuff?

If it's just for gaming, I would suggest saving a few more bucks, sell the old laptop and get a new one, or you can get some great deals if you keep an eye out on second hand or refurbished laptops.

Apparently your CPU is on the new side for that socket, so maybe pick up a cheap i7 for that socket and try it out. Or Google the laptop by name and its supported CPU list, the manufacturer should have published one.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.
