Question on 1440p vs 1080p(not gaming)

nucube

Hi there,

This might be only my 2nd post on here (1st was 3 or more years ago) so bear with me.I am looking to buy a new monitor for my current set up.I am not a gamer whatsoever,so I wont be using this monitor for games of any type.My main use is for music production software,I use cubase.I have looked up plenty of info about the differences between a 1440p and 1080p display,so I have a vague idea but not 100% sure on certain things. What attracts me to the 1440p is the extra real estate on the screen. This would be very useful when using cubase. My only other use for it will be viewing movies, youtube and general browsing etc. What concerns me a little is, according to what i have researched,if a video image isn't 1440p and just 1080p or 720p, like a lot of movies or vids on youtube are, these are up scaled to work on a 1440p display. This actually makes them look a bit worse than if the display was 1080p for example. Is this the case or is this only relevant to games and video editing etc?My other concern is my graphics card. For my current use I really don't need anything remotely powerful. The only reason I even have one is because my cpu (i7 5820k) didnt come with onboard graphics. My card is an  EVGA GeForce GT730.According to the specs its max digital is 4096x2160. Heres the specs list,

Would this card have any issues with 1440p for my current needs or would an upgrade be needed?I would most likely  go for a 1080p is that was the case.My current monitor is a really really old monitor from a very cheap PC from maybe 12 years ago.Its VGA and its resolution is 1440x900. So anything will be a vast improvement. The Extra space on a 1440p display does seem like it would be great for my workflow.

Any tips much appreciated.Cheers

You should just go for a 4k display instead of a 1440p display at this point

what budget/country?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I,m from ireland, budget would be something in the affordable price range tbh.Like i say its really just for a bit of a nicer display and screen real estate.4k would be a a bit too pricey for me just now. Will the image on videos and movies suffer if I go 1440p over 1080p considering most online vids are currently 720 and 1080P.Also any idea in how the graphics card would handle 1440p?Cheers
