Hello everyone,

I am totally new here and i do come with some building experience.  However i am a novice at Networking and Storage Device.

I recently finished building my Freenas box and i am loving it. However i have some questions about RAID.

1) Is Freenas raid system reliable? Its appears to be mainly software base.

2) i scavenged a 120gb SSD from my old gaming PC and was wondering if i can raid it with my 240gb SSD in my main PC and use the unused part of the 240gb SSD as cache for another drive? Both are Sata III

3) Is it worth upgrading from my 6700K to a 9700K or 9900K and use the 6700K as for the NAS box?  ( I mainly game or use the hackintosh side for Final Cut Pro X)

Thanks for the forum guys.

Regards

Mickkazzie

1. FreeNAS uses ZFS and its very good, better than most hardware raid solutions. The days of software raid being bad are over.

2. What OS? For windows, not easily, your better off just using it as a seprate drive, and the speed difference won't matter.

3. Probably not, Freenas doesn't need much cpu power. Upgrade your desktop if you want, but the NAs won't need it
