Hello there! As you can see by the topic, this post is about laptop upgrading. I never really thought about upgrading a laptop, but spending cash here and there to "beef" up a laptop doesn't seem as bad as saving a lot of money to get a full on desktop gaming computer (Plus, it is portable).

I am not a very tech-like person. I don't know a lot about computers. I know pretty basic stuff and maybe a few things here and there, plus the names of things like a GTX Ti thingymabob make learning all that more difficult. With that said the information about to be given is rather scarce... sorry.

Anyway thank you for taking the time to read this and let us begin.

Laptop Model: Inspiron 5565

Processor: AMD A12-9700P RADEON R7, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G, 2500 Mhz, 4 main processors, 4 logical processors

GPU: AMD Radeon(TM) R7 Graphics

RAM: 8.00 GB

Virtual Memory: 10.4 GB

Bit: 64-bit

Monitor/Screen: 60 Hz

-

(I got this from "systemrequirementslab)

  Pixel Shader: 5.1

  Vertex Shader: 5.1

  Dedicated Video RAM: 512

[CPU]

  CPU: AMD A12-9700P RADEON R7, 10 COMPUTE CORES 4C+6G

[CPU Speed]

  CPU Speed: 2.5 GHz

[RAM]

  RAM: 8.0 GB

That is about everything I could find. I know there are some repeated stuff there but I would rather double something than put nothing.

So here are my questions for help.

1. What would I need to do or buy to increase dedicated video memory for my laptop? Many games require lots of dedicated video memory, I love a lot of my games and sadly I play them with      very low FPS. For example Borderlands 2 I only get around 25 to 30, if I am lucky, or the shooter types of games I have, like Dirty Bomb and CSGO. Any tips or advice on what to do or what      I should buy?

2. Am I missing anything essential? Are there some things you would recommend I purchase immediately to increase my gaming performance?

3. How can I increase my performance with a variety of games? I have tried lots and lots of tricks from various videos. Some help and some don't.

Those are all the questions I can think of. In the end I just want to increase my FPS and performance in games. Any tips, tricks, or advice on what to purchase would be great.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my post.

Have a wonderful day.

I am afraid to say that with laptops, there are quite often very limited amounts of upgrades you can do. I would say the best thing you can do with your laptop is to upgrade its internal storage or change to a much faster SSD, add more RAM or even upgrade the screen if you're comfortable with using something that is potentially not supported.

If you truly want to game, I would highly recommend a desktop as this is upgradeable and it is more powerful. You can use a GPU docking station for your laptop if you want to game as well but these are also expensive and you're probably better off with buying a desktop for the same price, don't forget that a docking station also limits you to one place, removing the portability aspect until you're done with it.

I hate to break it to ya but when it comes to performance as well, the best thing you can do is run it on low settings and lowest resolution with some in-game file tweaks but that's about it beyond buying a more powerful machine.

1) I don't think you're being limited by video memory. Since you don't havea dedicated graphics card (and dedicated graphics cards can't have their video memory upgraded anyway), upgrading your RAM would be the only way to improve that situation. Your Integrated graphics solution is pretty weak though.

2) you won't really be able to add anything to cause any kind of huge leap in gaming performance. I'll look up your laptop model to see if it accepts some form of graphics card but I doubt it.

3) graphics configs would be my recommendation. Lowering certain settings even more than what's allowed in the menus. How this is accomplished varies game to game.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

1. Upgrading your RAM. In most laptops, this is either easy or impossible. There's no real in-between.

2. To be perfectly honest, a new system.

3. Lower your settings.

Laptop is not worth upgrading. The best and suggested thing to do is to squeeze every last bit of performance out of it through settings and software tweaks. Check out this guide by lowspecgamers
